Don't stress about your newness. A little under a year ago. I had no clue how to go about growing this wonder herb either.
The wonderful peeps here on RIU busted my balls and dispensed a plethora of information. some of which actually sunk in.
You'll get there.

As for the cheap leds you will be better off with t5. The cheap leds are about the same efficiency and same heat so why spend the extra money.

I don't know how big of an area the people recommending lights are growing in but keep the size of yours in mind.
I wouldn't try any more than 2 of my COBs in there and they're only ~55w each. Even that could be too much. I'm only running 5 of them right now in a 2.5'w x 4'd x 9' high closet.

closets not small....
well... i mean, it 'small' but its not like a micro grow...
And... yea, micro grows are a hobby sport, with a cheeky bonus of free weed at the end....
Its just about going all simcity on a plant and building a small world... In reality, the amount of time and money going IN to a small grow prevents it from being worth it..... You can't stealth it, because you need too much light, light makes heat, heat needs fans, fans make noise, etc...
In the end, if you cant pull at least a few ounces off a grow, its cheaper to just buy some weed...
Cabinet grows are a grey area, depends on cabinet size, and setup cost (lighting/cooling options)
anything smaller is a 'just cuz I can' grow, a small closet will work, a large closet is better, 2 closets is even better yet....
A basement room, with a floor drain and easy access to the breaker box... thats best...

you should not listen to me. you should take the time to do your own research. learn about lighting and plant physiology by talking to experts and reading the numerous studies that are available online. analyze those test to learn what they are really telling you.there are a lot of people with good sales pitches out there trying to sell you over priced junk. the only way to protect yourself is to educate yourself. you asked why I chose T5s and I gave you the reason I made that choice. I really don't care what you use. it will have no effect on my life. as long as there is demand for horticultural T5s companies will continue improving horticultural T5s. the same is true for horticultural HIDs. the aquarium community was the first to start playing with LEDs for growing plants. they still use a mix of royal blue and cool white LEDs to create visual effects in their tanks but have found that florescent an metal halide lights work better for growing plants and corals.the horticultural community has come to the same conclusion. I believe that CMH will be the next hot new grow light for cannabis growers but that is just my opinionWow point taken Maurice ....But why should I listen to you your just anonymous stoner?

I wouldn't question that. I have 330w between 6 COBs in my space and was pondering 1 more. Not that I need it in anyway. lol
The pic he showed earlier is about half that space. Maybe 18"x24"ish. I personally wouldn't run 4 COBs @200w in there. I think it would be a bad time. I've experienced too much light with mine and on occasion have to run them pretty high. Same reason I'm only running 5 of the 6 right now.
For this size grow and especially using COB/QB that whole 50w/sq ft goes out the window. I'd put cash money on 2 COBs @110w being more than adequate in there. If it's not too much. A single COB can burn a plant pretty easily. He's also has a height limit.
A lot keep talking like this dude's using a tent.

2 of the stunted auto's from my 1st grow would easily fit in your cabinet as they never got over 10" tall. That's a total of ~4.5oz in 3 months time. I made a lot of mistakes and still got to harvest some decent weed by accident. No reason you can't achieve that on purpose, right?
