I'm down. A lot of these barely adult nut jobs do have violent juvenile records.
Apologies I missed this snippet earlier I kinda went defensive when you started with the name calling and such but thats a red flag worth utilizing imho.
Fwiw I'm not a huge AR fanboi. I have 2 of them but I find their utility lacking for killing in general, not great for hunting or in-home defense imo.
Uvalde shooter could have done much worse with Uncle Joe's shotgun in all reality. A 5 round pump can be topped off on the fly in any number of round variations, including slugs or even fletchettes that were banned in Vietnam.

No worries, internet communication gets tough. People tend to read into things a lot more negative than they should because they are used to being trolled all the time. It is always a good idea to reread things if you think I am 'name calling' and try to do it in a way that is not.
As for guns, I am not radicalized one way or the other about them. I grew up around them, and know that mostly people are idiots and know they end up being used far too often while drunk.
I think a solid insurance/registration program would go a long way. Also force manufacturers to keep a registry to be able to track guns by their spent bullets to be able to backtrack them to a original purchaser if they are used in a crime. Close the ability for foreign nations to send our radicalized idiots bullets/guns (see the jack ass racist Mexican hunter from Texas for an example of why it is not a good idea). Im sure there are a lot of other things that can and should be done to help stop idiots who shouldn't have guns from having the ability to so easily get them, but again, this is not even in the top 20 of issues I care about.

Right on. I tend to think most people are idiots also but Phi Ratio tells me it's more like 38% but it sure does seem way bigger.

That is the trolling impact IMO. This is why I use the Schrodinger's cat analogy for online communication.
Since I have no way to know (unless I know them in real life) if the account is a real person or a troll, they exist in both states simultaneously until they show themselves to just be trolling (which it seems is about 90% of the time since accounts are free and the militarized attack on our society using troll farms is overwhelming).
This helps me to keep my faith in humanity.

Something the news is doing is calling all .223 semi auto's AR 15 style weapons. Some of those shooters used the cheaper knockoff brands.
The reason AR's are used in school shootings is for the same reason more kids die in SUV's, Because they are the most popular. The .223 is a varmint rifle and low to mid powered. We need to make all guns harder to get for crazy people. We don't need to put all the hate on one weapon. Soon the Army is getting a new rifle, and it is high powered. If it becomes as common as the AR, a lot less folks are going to live through these shootings.
Self inflicted gun deaths are way down, all the way to 54%, but still the handgun is by far the biggest killer.

I didn't know 1974 was our worst year for gun deaths. Although a kid in the fifth grade at my school did get shot and killed around 71 or 72.
While 2020 saw the highest total number of gun deaths in the U.S., this statistic does not take into account the nation’s growing population. On a per capita basis, there were 13.6 gun deaths per 100,000 people in 2020 – the highest rate since the mid-1990s, but still well below the peak of 16.3 gun deaths per 100,000 people in 1974.

Iirc the M1A started service in 1942 and has 25 round magazines. Much more power than a 5.56 AR-15 platform in my humble opinion. More in line with an AR-10.
So back then you could literally mail order a 1911 with 30 round magazines, and any gun really.
No background check, no age restrictions.
Clip out the order form and put that and a check in an envelope, mail it and wait 6-8weeks for your high powered, high capacity weapon to arrive at your doorstep.
I guess the point I'm attempting here is I hear a lot of "guns are so easy to get these days".
These days this and that right? But it just isn't the case. Guns are much harder to get.
So you could literally mail order these "high capacity super-powered" weapons of war all the way into the 1960's and like I'm having trouble trying to tie these types of weapons to the rise in school shooting when the fact is they were way easier to get back in the day when these types of mass shootings didn't seem to be a thing.

Spot on and some very interesting good news. I wonder if we were to exclude self inflicted deaths from the total like the rest of the world seems to do how the rest of the numbers would pan out then?
It's interesting about the handgun statistics you mention also specifically as it relates to "real" Colt AR's or just the platform in general because I tend to register lower as pistols and then just put whatever upper on with proper buffer spring. It makes me wonder if this plays into the statistics of handgun vs rifle?
