kind is rebranded apollo from cidly and uses knock off epistar and knock off bridgelux chips. Onyx is from rapid led And uses cree chips.

I think the onyx would be better if they used a larger heat sink and spread the leds out a little more. other than that. It's pretty good quality.

Supra-I thought you had seen the whole light in my post. The housing has 1.25" fins the length of the light and Consists of around 20 to 25 pounds of aluminum. I have one fan above the light for the heatsinks but they stay cool. Junction temp. doesn't go over 100*F. Flat, the heatsink would measure 3'x 20". The leds are between 110-130 lm/w.

@red LOL at 420lm/W. You must be misunderstanding the specs my friend, but I wish that were true.

@never sorry I just went back and checked your thread, did not see your reply with the pics of the fins, I will retract that statement. A heatsink temp of 100F is not terrible. I can assure you though, the warm whites are nowhere near 110lm/W dissipating 40W at those high currents and high temps. I have poured over the specs sheets that I could find for those COBs and determined that they are actually more expensive/photon than the Crees, and that is not taking into consideration the electrical savings of the Cree. That said, they might still grow some good pot and I say, use what you have got on hand. I am just trying to warn new buyers not to expect the results of the Crees or Veros from generic COBs. Honestly, I believe HPS would be a better bet.

I think the fact that they stepped up to Cree is a great improvement, although XBD has not been known as an ideal growing LED, it is very cheap. They would have been better served by XTE and even better served by XML2 or for a flowering lamp, the CXA3070.

Sorry man I feel like a negative nancy talking smack all the time. I just want to make sure that when we steer people away from HPS, we are steering them correctly and honestly. HPS really is a great way to flower pot and as LED growers we have to be on our AAA game to compete with it.
 
Price, drivers and Chips are my priority. These are the best bang for the buck I have found with worthy components that they (the factory) are willing to tailor to my needs. So far it looks like I could compete with the prices of Area51, Onyx, etc. if not beat them. Hoping for the ladder.

I originally came to see if you ever got your lab results back. I had confused A51 with Apache. I'm terrible with names. Always have been as far back as I can remember. I suffered from high fever and convulsions as an infant and had a concussion at 6. Either of those could be the cause.
