Anyone use a window air conditioner w/ external timer?

Just wondering if anyone does this so their room can be cooled automatically for 12 hours or 18 hours a day without the manual start and stop? Wondering if long term use of using an ac on an external timer can mess up circuitry and make unit not start one day

the biggest issue you are likely to have is finding a timer that can handle the amperage that an A/C unit requires. You would likely fry the timer quickly. Now if you buy a slightly more expensive A/C unit, you can get one with a digital thermo with timer built in. it would have a programmable thermostat.

I hooked mine up to a timer i bought at Home depot, it covers the amperage/watts w/e so we're good. It has to be a 3 pronged plug in on tha side so its grounded. and just make sure it flips on when its set to, someone gave me the advice of "as long as your a/c will start up w/ the timer your good". gl
