Anyone tried these HortiLum COBs from Luminus? I am building a rig.

Luminus has these COBs specifically for horticulture. Spectrum looks good on paper, hate the blurple color but I can deal. Lots of deep reds. I got the spectrum 12, which is 1:2 ratio Blue/Deep Red intended for flowering.

I am going to build a rig with 4 of these and a QB288v2 in 4K in the center for veg/extra blue in flower.

Anyone tried these or heard of these? With the PPF ratings and spectrum I am surprised I don't see anyone using them. Thanks!

There is really no advantage to using those over a high cri light. There is actually a disadvantage. I know a few of the top guys at luminus and they only made that spectrum because lumileds made a similar one. Go for a cri95 your grow will be better and you will also have a nice white light to work under

Big companies are often stupid and copy each other instead of comming up with something new on their own. I've tried and tried with big companies to take a risk and do something special but they don't or make MOQs out of reach and then still want to sell things to everyone although you paid for the development. I am under an NDA so I can't say too much but I can say there will be alot on offer this year that does not come from a major company due to the greed they have.

I've always thought the Luga Cob Leaf would be good for a flowering light.
Never tried it though.
Led tech de used to sell them but theyre currently out of stock.
They have linear strips in them. Expensive but a nice spectrum

GE has been selling thier narrow band phosphor technology to quite a few companies, so far I have only seen Nichia and cree using this, I have tested several Nichia products and the mid power range using this technology is pretty good, the cob products are really bad though but n
Nichia has always had poor efficiency cobs for some reason although Citizen uses Nichia blue die to make COBs. I am yet to test the Cree Etone COBs they maybe really good for horticulture.

Thank you for the response!

Would these work well? 2700k 95 CRI from Cree. I noticed 95CRI has less lumens than the 90 CRI. What's the advantage of a higher CRI when it comes to growing vs more lumens?

With the higher cri you get more 660 and 730 nm in the spectrum, some plants like this better but others don't, the highest efficiency for PAR is usually a CRI 80 cob and that is what most use. I have found that different strains like different colours of light so there is no right answer I can give you.

Luminus has the best COBs now days and that will probably continue to happen, Luminus has big money behind them, alot more money than Cree, Osram and Lumileds.

Thanks! Sounds like maybe 90 CRI would be a good happy medium between PAR and light quality then?

The high quality Luminus ones seem hard to find. Large minimum orders and no one stocks.

CXM-22-27-90-54-AC30-F4-3

Was looking at that one.

I am not sure where you are based but COB kits has the new luminus, they are a sponsor on here so they maybe able to help you out.

Looks like they only have 3000k and not 2700k.

I forgot to ask, what was the disadvantage you mentioned for the HortiLum COBs? I already have a few of them in hand, so I would need to return them. Besides the blurple color, is there an advantage to white light LEDs vs this kind of spectrum?

Thank you so much for your help!

White light has more of a full spectrum, your purple COBs lack green, green plays an important role in horticulture as it is responsible for stomatal control. I'm not saying that your plants won't grow under purple light they just do better under white light. I believe that every part of the spectrum is important in horticulture lighting not just red and blue. Maybe send cob kits a pm here as they could have something that isn't on the website yet.
