These replies are hilarious. Its probably just your histamines reacting to the plants "defense system". As in, your immune system is reacting to something it feels is a threat and so is the plant. Theres a reason this only happens while trimming "fresh" plant material.

You're not "allergic" just having an allergic "reaction".

Some strains cause this, some don't. Could be those with a certain terpene profile as well. (cat piss comes to mind as a snot runner)

The only real problem I have while trimming is touching my eyes or eye.
I'll be really conscientious about it at first, but as the hours drag bye, I forget and end up touching my eyes!
Man does it burn.
It takes time but you learn.....Running a perpetual op....you learn quicker....

Yes you are not alone with this lol, my first EVER harvest I felt sick the entire harvest, fresh bud kinda has a freshly mowed lawn type of smell and I felt very nauseous at some points of trimming lol.

Maybe the rise in humidity and long exposure to it can also add to or be the problem. A friend of mine had to live in a flat that had a on going damp problem and he always complained of feeling dizzy and sick. I guess humidity/damp are not quite the same thing but could be something in it, along with what others have mentioned.

Covering hands will help but it is likely you are taking in more through your mouth, nose and eyes. Some people are also prone to ear infections in high humid/water environments.

Most importantly imo is to check your posture. If you are sitting with your head slung forward looking down for 2+ hours at a time you may be getting muscular tension head aches and a few other things from not sitting properly and taking enough breaks/general fatigue. Sitting slouched for example can also give the stomach a sickly feeling.

Mental fatigue is also a thing, with some heavy physical effects. Do you enjoy sitting there hours on end 5 days in a row?. Set yourself a limit per day and don't forget to actually do something fun every day -.^.

Just pointing out some other possible things in case you rule out allergies or what not.

Anyone ever get sick while trimming? The past few harvests I've got super bad head she's and even nausea while trimming. Not sure if its the pungent odor but its killing me. Anyone else have this happen?

If you are trimming in a "sealed" room the CO2 levels can get to an unhealthy level rather quick, especially if you have help. Be sure to implement "air" exchange, or take breaks and allow the room to dump the CO2 (door open, window, whatever). Excessive CO2 (amount/duration of exposure) can cause headaches and nausea.

You need air, bro. :bigjoint:

Just notice some people are having the same issue. I bought one of those ventilator masks from Home Depot and I've been fine ever since. Must have had to do with the smell.

Any chance you may need an eye exam OP? Perhaps you are focusing pretty hard to do a good job and the constant shifting of focus is causing eye strain. Just a thought.

It's good to not touch your eye's or nasal passages while trimming.

That sticky all over your hands is an irritant. It's meant to repel things that would consume it...

It'll make your eye's swell and itch - nose too....

EASY way to 100% remove the sticky from hands? Spray WD-40 on your hands and use a paper towel to wipe them off...get's under your nails and such too..

Then wash hands normally to remove the WD residue.......BOOM, NO STICKY!
Hey, this thread mad old but was wondering if you know if the irritant on the trim ever decays or something because i was hoping to make edibles and worried about long term consumption of irritants.

Trimming down big gassy pungent buds make me tear up; sometimes to the point of nausea. Take lots of little breaks; cannot rush finish trimming. Listening to something groovy along with a dank local brew seems to help keep you focused somehow; highly suggest Frank Zappa. Works for me.

The irritant is plant resins. Decarb your material and it will be fine for consumption.
I’m mad old yo

The durban crosses I have make my eyes ache at the same time I smell them, and I once was in a rush watering plants and ran my arms through them to reach the back ones, an hour later I was slumped over the steering wheel thinking I was dying and only the next day did I correlate the two
