I'm not sure moisture content has any direct impact on potency. I've gobbled some right as I plucked them out of the tub and they hit just fine. Like Thundercat said, drying is about safety. If you've ever heard of anyone getting sick from eating shrooms, it was almost undoubtedly from ones that weren't dried completely before storage and ended up with some nasty shit growing on them.

If they’re not dry the psilocybin can oxidize and lose potency too.

I’ve boiled shrooms for hours to make tea and reduction, it’s not possible to damage them with a dehydrator.

they should be dehydrated asap for 12 hours minimum and 24 to be safe. When you think they’re dry weigh a few and put them back in for an hour or two then weigh them again. If they don’t lose weight they’re dry.

after that mason jars are fine, I’ve had some sitting in the corner for 3+ years that havent Degraded at all

Foodsaver vacuum sealers are pretty cheap. Dry em completely, seal them and store them in the fridge if you can. Freezing can work too but I've heard that may degrade them?? I'm not sure on that, maybe someone can confirm/deny whether that's true or not.

Edit
I've tried drying them just with a fan. It can take a very long time , and it seemed as though they would pick up moisture from the air on humid days

I use dessicate and an oxygen absorber in mylar bags. Ofcourse you can vacuum for longer storage. Use a food dehydrator and dry at 72 celcius asap, when cracker dry (depends on stipe thickness) the'll be fine. Some also use argon gass, never tried myself. Or create an acidified tea from fresh with citric acid when you can't dry/have small batch.. freeze those cubes, also creat taste.

anybody have any links to what they think is the simplest, best-for-beginners, fruiting chambers??

i inoculated a grain bag (1st attempt: yeah!) on aug 11 and looks like i did OK. i broke up the grain after 7 days and most of the bag is nice and white now.

but now, step 2. and i don't want to mess it up. maui platinum was the strain i decided to try first.

that's what i've been googling lately. monotubs with coco, with coco/vermiculite and then shotgun chambers with perlite.

how easy was the pf tek that you did do you think?
