I tried the hill approach first, last year I had some crappy tote around 20 gallons but it was clearish..maybe that's it?

It's frustrating as I see people pull those massive hauls out of garbage cans and other such setups, not for this guy though. Will probably give it another go, I keep branching out each year trying new stuff and like doing projects in my yard.

i repurposed our old fridge that died. doors off, on it's back and you get 2 nice compartments that are insulated too. a few drain holes.

Did you keep re-hilling? You want to keep making it higher as the plant grows.

Potatoes like potassium, sandy soil, heat and water. You could say they like insecticide/fungicide as well :-? View attachment 4852021
What about pH? Im making a new bed.Ceder bushes were there for 12 years. They all died 2 years ago.Im just now removing the stumps. The dirt is pretty black,I grew flowers around the edges so that dirt has a lot of compost mixed in.
Suggestions.? I think ill remove the good soil then re fill with??I think Ill need 2cu/yd.

so potato peeps, i bought 4 bags of potato starters from wally world maybe 2 months ago. they all have sprouted with the white tentacles that are maybe 6" long now. it's still too early to plant them outside.

when i do, should i trim off those tentacles? or just plant them as is?

i live in a small village in the valleys of sw wales uk and theres three growers who leave the potatos untill they get blight and that spreads to everyone elses crops. this year we have them in those dried flower pots you get from the garage or super market.
we cut holes in the bottom of the bucket (2 galon), place a net pot in the bottom and then put them in home made troughs, which is a length of gutter withthe ends blocked off and a piece of 2 x 2 along the length of the guttering, we did a small experiment last year and it worked a treat, each bucket did 3 days worth of potatos for three people. well worth a try, both in and outside
