Any potato growers?

I'd just burry them and leave a few to 6"'s out.

minimum amount of potatoes would be a three good serving of potatos for three meals, with a few left over. they water themmselvs from the bottom, but this year were going to give them a top watering every so offten so were expecting larger harvests.
i can ask mum in thre morning what weight we get from each bucket, she keeps records like that.
the other advantage is that should we get blight on one, we can remove it quickly befor the others get infected

I might get some snow tomorrow. They grow fast. How are you doing them? When I had all those rows. I did the rows far apart and hoe'd up the rows taller as the plants grew taller. The trenches get deep and the rows get tall and you get lots of potatoes! Way more than you'll need. How many are you planting?
 
My Yukon Golds have been growing for awhile. These were planted about 18 inches deep and I've filled in as they grew. It looks like I need to scavenge some soil and add a few more inches.

I planted some red potatoes in the trenches on the left. The potatoes on the right are volunteers from potatoes I must have missed last year. I'm not expecting much from them but I couldn't bring myself to rip them out. Now I need to find a spot for my summer squash which was going in that spot.

getyourself some old tyres (car), cut the rims off and then you have the perfect raised bed ,just fill with soil and plant your squash in them. thats hat we do

I've seen that done. But I'm going for a more natural garden and old rubber tires don't really fit into that plan. But they do work.
 
Trying potatoes for the first time this year. Bought 10 gallon grow bags, but they are high sided. Rolled them down to about 10 inches, then filled with my potting mix and covered the the spuds. Just started them yesterday. Three varieties, red chieftain, huckleberry gold, and Adirondack blue.

i use a old fridge (both compartments) and do the same thing. start them on the bottom and keep adding dirt as they grow.

i''ve got 4 of those mesh bags of starters from wal mart. i cut them in half usually. pretty much the whole fridge in the end

potatoes when grown in soil, do something to the soil, like legumes leaving nitrogen nodiles in the soil, nitrating it, old potato soil makes fotr great soil for growing cannabis in.
ok if we talk about potatoes now?????
 
Some of my potatoes have started to flower. Hopefully they'll produce fruit and I'll be able to get some seeds. I know that the results won't be true to the parent but I've never grown potatoes from seed and it's something I have to try.

These Yukon Golds have grown quite a bit since I posted the last picture less than a month ago. I might have overdone the soil amending. I hope it's not going to be just foliage and no potatoes.

Didn't think I was gonna get to play along this year, but I have a couple volunteers I must not have harvested from last year. They're under the soffit, so I need to remember to water them more often.

Time to hill my potatoes,last year I used dirt this yr I have an abundance of rye straw.
Do I just use straight straw or mix/cover with dirt?
What say you?
