The stock market is a scam. If you make money, get it out as fast as you can. Dad was a broker and he never invested a dime of his own money
And yet his clients kept coming back because he was making THEM money, which he then took a cut of. Right? So scam or not, your dad made his money from the stock market.

The stock market is many things, but I wouldn't say it's a scam. It definitely preys on the weak and uninformed, but it also (mostly) plays by the rules that are in place.

Maybe not a scam, but it's rigged. If you're well connected, you will make a boat load of money. If you're like the vast majority of us it's really luck. If I want to gamble with my money I prefer Vegas.

I don't think I've ever disagreed with you over anything Spicy ...... but there's a first for everything. I don't believe that the stock market (or it's players) play by the rules at all. Just the opposite. It is so gamed, and so shady to the point that people should be in jail over it. Insider trading is the norm any more.

Its dumb luck if you don't do your research on the investment. Randomly picking stocks is stupid.

my first mmj industry penny stock cost 5 cents a share. Went up and I think is still currently at 16 cents. I only spent $20 on it and would of made $80 in the first week if I sold. I know they are going to go up once they start selling their mmj products.

Actually, no, most investors are encouraged to keep their money in the market until it's gone. They're sold stocks that brokers are sure will tank. It's all a game and investors are the losers most of the time

Ok seems like a lot of mixed opinions here! I'm def into some of these mj stocks though, just spent like the last 4 hours looking into it and there is def a few companies that are worth a gamble. Going to do a good bit more research over the next little while before committing any cash mind you but I'm sure I will invest somewhere... And if I lose my dough, hey ho, you win some you lose some!

hopefully this thread continues and we can maybe give each other some tips?

i might take note of stock prices when I decide what I'm going to buy and post them and we can see if I'm bust or up in a few months time....

Well, if it's so simple, and there's no luck involved why aren't you posting from your yacht in the Caribbean right now? You should be a billionaire by now, no?

^^^^ cops took everything in 2003... I never had 5 million to drop in an investment. The more you spend the more you make. I never spent more than a a few hundred dollars at a time. The only stock I ever lost on was Disney. I still own it and it went back up and split one more time since it dove. I've owned the same Disney stock since 1994. With owning Disney stock they used to have perks y freebees. They don't do that anymore Occassionally I get dividend checks.

Stow - I wasn't very clear above. When I said "rules" above, I was not referring to the SEC rules (which obviously aren't followed...). What I meant was more the "rules of the game", if you will. Rules like stock in companies that are successful (or have good hype/PR) tends to go up, and stock of companies that are unsuccessful (or have negative hype/PR) tend to go down. Manipulation, insider trading, and other shady practices have BECOME the rules of the game. If you understand this, it's possible to use it to your advantage.

I guess what makes it less of a scam in my mind is that I go into it knowing full well what I'm getting in to. If I lose money, I will not feel scammed. I will feel like I lost at a very strange game, but gained some valuable experience.

The more I come to understand the stock market as the silly game that it is, the better "player" I will become.

I feel ya Spicy. I guess as long as you go in to it with that mindset, and are prepared to lose what you've invested then you'll be fine...... and you might even make some coin.

I guess the whole system just irks me. It's set up so that the tiny majority at the top make all of the money, and everyone else gets squeezed. I'm very much a pescimist when it comes to American capitalism.

The money I'm playing with in the stock market was my annual bonus from work last year (an especially fat one for me). It'll be a bummer if I lose it, but life will go on. I'm using this money to learn the ropes, knowing full well that I'm not going to get rich off it.

There is definitely money to be made on stocks. In today's market it's gamble. I did it for a little bit back in 1995 or 1996.I bought into Walmart at like 20 some dollars a share by 2000 I tripled and sold out.back then they where putting Walmart store all over and most became supercenters. But is a hard game to play.I think I might start looking at company's making led lights. It's new but it's gaining ground now.

I see, you're investing on your own, not through a brokerage. I haven't followed the market since the 90s, so that's foreign to me. Sorry

I am investing through an online brokerage. TradeKing to be exact.

And for the record, I am in no way an expert investor. I have one stock to my name, and it is not related to the MJ industry. I just started this thread to discuss the investment opportunities as they arise.

Wow, so many capitlaist in the organic section. Haha

i think investing in cannabis is a great idea! However why does it have to be done with stocks? Middle men? Corporations?
Invest by all means! But do it locally! Invest in sustainabilty i do.

its great to see Colorado have such a "legal"wealth explosion amongst its community, brings jobs and brings innovation. But lets not forget where all these legal taxes go to, military industrial complex=WAR=environmental destruction=innocent people suffering. Haha yea im a socialist and whaT

i know legalization is on its way to cali, thats because capitalism is a disease and it preys on the greed

Great thread, but not very organic imo but i b lurking
