I was thinking the same, that maybe the ak would do better indoors. I'm going to take Dec to get my stuff set up for the fall/spring go-round. I'm going to to use coco-coir this go and see whats up, I've been hearing alot of good stuff about this medium. Mayor you ever use it b4?

I haven't tried it or looked into it, heard good things. I made my own mix for the longest and moved to fox farm for a few years, then to roots organic a couple of years ago.

Where do you get FF here in Tx? Whats the cost per cuft? Whats this roots organic you mentioned, is this an organic soil company?

I’ve got to make the trip to Houston to get that stuff. I go to Texas Growers Supply, really cool people and been there the longest out of any of the shops. I think FFOF comes in 1.5 cubic feet bags and is around 23 after tax and Roots organic is 21 after tax. Aurora is who makes Roots but the web site doesn't give much info. It has the coco product in it and stays moist for a long time near the bottom of your container so it's good to mix a little more perlite in the bottom half of your pots so the medium dries evenly.

Right on thanks for the info. Man, 23 bones a bag! Was there an appreciable gain in quality of the finished product?

When I lived in Austin, a longggg time ago, we would scatter seeds along small feeder streams of a few choice creeks. Deer were sometimes a problem and sometimes not, I don't know why, but growing in river silt is amazing. Some plants grew to gargantuan size...and FAST. Also, we would look for snarled wire and fencing that had been washed up in floods, and plant in the midst. Great for deer protection.

Deer will not be a problem as i will be putting up a 6 ft barbed wire fence around my grow area, it won't be a large grow but prob just a 15x15 area with some good spacing for my plants!

Not gurella either, just all for personal smokes :D

It'll take more than a 6ft fence to keep deer out. They can hop that in their sleep.

Yeah, skunks are a problem. They are attracted to freshly tilled soil, so planting seed in some good loose sandy loam and letting it grow naturally is a good idea around here. Or put a wire cage around it.

Compost and fish emulsion are skunk magnets.

small vermin will be a problem where im at but, thankfully i have snares that will snap these lil buggers right in half! :D

Bugs will be a problem but ill be using some sprays that Badzad had posted on here previously check page 3 i believe

Also ill be putting up some sort of lining along the bottom of my fenced area so that it will hopefully not allow these vermin into my grow! :D

There are some strains that bugs don't seem to like. I was just reading about some excellent Iranian strains from Dr. Greenthumb.

Yes, I don’t have the biggest buds but I’ve never had such resinous plants like I do now. The Roots is the one I use and its 21, yah, it is a bit pricey but it’ll have a long life at my place. Once I amend it with perlite and dolomite then use a typical organic feeding routine, I end up getting 12-14 oz. (or a lb. if I grew more indicas) out of a bag. After I use it indoors I take it outside and dump it on compost piles I made the year before, amend it, mulch it, keep it moist and I’ve got a patch to grow in within a few months. FFOF gave me bigger buds and not as much resin but my nutrients were a little different so you can take that for whatever its worth, probably not much. :-P

Mayor, first hand experience is priceless, thanks for the info, you learn more by doing than you ever will by reading. Also man I'm onboard with quality vs quantity. I personally rate flavor/aroma/potency over volume anyday. Aight so I've been using different soil mixes on almost every grow,(mostly because of availability) with mixed results. I want to try coco next and see what it produces. The past 3 grows have been organic(2in/1outdoor)using different mixes of pearlite, green sand, vermiculite along with organic substances like humate, liquid sea weed, cal-po-mag etc. I had some issues with nutrient lockout/deficiency with my outdoor grow during flowering, I think mostly due to the local water being shit. Any sugestions on overcoming the water issue? What indicas do you like?

Don’t know a lot about water supplies but if you’re only growing a few plants you might want to just get a brita or other inexpensive water filtration, ro systems are really cheap now days too. I’m sure you know rain water is far superior to chlorinated tap water but sometimes I have to carry in tap water so I bubble it for at least 36 hours and adjust ph down with molasses usually, just make sure chloramine is NOT in your water and fix it if it is. My rain barrels are set up to collect quite a bit of rain. I keep them aerated so they don’t get nasty and IMO dissolved oxygen is very important. Lots of plans for the future but I’d love to set-up a gravity fed irrigation system going to my grow plots from the barrels.

Indicas have never compromised more than 20% of my garden inside or out and they all pretty much do the same for me. Sativas are why I get up in the morning so I probably wouldn’t be the one to ask about indicas, sorry. Growing a local Kush from LA right now and it just pummels me into a hazy submission but is a great medicinal. Going to add another one soon but I got on Attitude yesterday and the choices are endless these days. I like that outdoor Iranian auto thread going around, might look into those so they’ll be done early before the heat sets in.
