Another shitty ViparSpectra grow

Thanks for the advice. I was looking at QB 288 V2's, but I'd need about 10 for the 2 tents/rooms I want to run. That's a lot of $$ me ATM.

Dude... Really... Those COBs are a ton of cash.
So from a fairly new grower , this is my take on it.
My vipars have grown me some of the best bud I have smoked. (not a VS hater really)

Under my V3 300 at $65 US and 120w power I produced
b.jpg
It ended up being 1 0z. (new grower remember)

Under my 900 at $260 US with 3 plants (week 8 not harvested) 450 watts of power
7 week.jpg
I am hoping for 1.5 ounces each plant (keep in mind same new grower all along.

Under my Autocob at $125 us, and half the power of a 300vs @65 watts
2Ounce.jpg
Over 2 ounces under 1 cob and half the power and heat of a 300w VS.

Keep in mind I am pretty new still , a lot to learn. But it makes sense to me to buy 1 autocob @ $125 US that produces better spectrum and no heat half the power over 2 viparspectras with 3x power consumption, way more heat and does not compare to the spectrum.

What size room?

Those cobs listed are pricey but with some diy or kits from other places it's not that bad.
It's a 4x4. Ive been told to flower in that I need 6 288v2 or like 9 COBs. Not trying to drop that much cash. Also, I'm going to try and get 2 rooms running so I can stagger harvest.

I priced out strips and the build was in the 500 range for a 4x4

2 288's I think would smash that and so would 4 autocobs. I think it would take at minimal 4 viparspectra's to cover that as well. A viperspectra 300 will flower 1 plant. My Vs 900 Doesn't even cover my 3x3 effectively.

4 autocobs from www.cobshop.net will run you at that $480 mark. And you wont have to upgrade later and save on electricity.

Not trying to be a salesman. But I do wish that someone woulda have pointed this out to me when I first started rather than spend the same money I did on viparspectra.

Who ever is telling you 9 autocobs is clearly on crack not MJ

Have you looked at the 315 cmh's? They're are reasonably priced, and they seem like they work very well also. Maybe you could go with one 315 and one qb, or one 315 and two cobs.
That would make a pretty awesome set up for under 500 beans .

That's what I thought. 2 288 V2. I was going to make up 2 set ups for about 500. Even if I had to do 3 boards for flower, I just didn't want to need 4 or 6 for a tent. I haven't had time to go through the minutiae.

I was thinking of just doing CMH to start and getting Bridgelux or Samsung strips before summer. A 315 CMH should be fine for a 4x4, right?

If 4 cobs will cover a 4x4 I think I could DIY some Luminous for under 400. Honestly I'm leaning toward CMH for ease of start up and some extra heat in the winter, then going to QB in the summer. New England weather blows.

Thanks so much again guys for the help. It really is appreciated.

EDIT: And never mind CMH. 168-200 for a fixture and bulb. Not going to bother. Just going to run a 2 or 3 QB setup and see what I get. Leaning toward 3 QB.

I'd suggest doing the samsung or bridgelux strips over the quantum boards, you can cover every square inch of your space that way. The cmh is a good light to start with but nothing beats the efficiency of strips/cobs.

I agree. My first indoor grow was using a little 600 w HID and I got a pound. Why not start out without spending a fortune AND get a decent harvest for the time frame?

Don't get me wrong im happy that you happy but you can see in the first pic you could of doubled your harvest with more penetration. Its a no brainer for a new grower to get enough flower to last till the next harvest.

Strips are actually more expensive than QBs. Perhaps if I can find some for cheap on Ali Baba or something.

Yea, that was sort of the point I was trying to make. I was happy to grow great weed and all, but a little part of me wanted to cry on weigh in day .

I am a few weeks out on completing my 2nd grow under the autocob and I am sure I will get 2+ zips again. I know I can do better but I think it's an acceptable start for a new grower doing autoflowers. Slowly saving up to dump those vipars.

I am not familiar with the strips you guys are talking about. Can someone link me ?

I was saying strip builds, my dude. Though those are a good price. Which diode is on that?

That might work in my space too. Extruded heatsinks for that might be cheap enough too
Same diode as the quantum boards. You dont even need a heat sink, just mount them to a piece of 1/8" aluminum channel and save alot of money. I've done one mounted on heatsinks and one on the aluminum channel and I'll never buy the heatsinks again unless I was planning on running the to the max. I run 6 fb24 at 750 watts on the aluminum channel.

I max the shit out of everything I make, so I'm def gonna go with heatsinks.
wonder if fullscan19 is confused as hell to how his thread got turned into a civil light discussion :)

As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever seen one before.
