An alternative to trellis netting for SCROG?

I'm wondering if I placed a small screen on top of the trellis netting and prevented the plant from growing up and forcing it to grow out is a good idea?

The light still penetrates and I don't have the manual labor of repeatedly weaving the plant in/out/under the netting. I could remove this screen a week or two into flower.

Will a cannabis plant 'run' like a vine under these conditions?

THOUGHTS? IDEAS? ADVICE?

It basically becomes LST and not a ScrOG. Trellis not only keeps the canopy even but it also provides support. You can force your plant to grow laterally, but then you will most likely just be trading the work of weaving thru a screen for tying up a bunch of plant stakes.

Any screen will block out some of your light, so I would skip it, but it's good to think out of the box. Have you considered just training your buds to fill out the canopy? With supercroping and lst along with some judicious topping early in veg you can easily fill your footprint with even colas.

This is how I train my mothers but it'll work out the same as SCROG and you won't need a trellis. The grow like single stalk plant.

Maybe laying the mesh directly on top of the net/trellis? Then when you remove the mesh the net is already there, in place.

Maybe you could try something like this one I made with legs using pvc and wire fencing. Not a scrog grow in the photos but you can see the “net”.
