I'd guess you are going to need quite a few of those.
If it is really outputting 9W you could probably get away with 4-5 but if its just rated at 9W but outputting like 60-70% of that you would need more.

This will be interesting, people are claiming cobs can grow weed at like 40W a sqft right? And lettuce needs like 1/4 the light in theory so let's see what happens

It's says . 90 power factor. I already have a power conditioner on my circuit. hopefully I can pull 4 heads of Romain off with it.

4K MH grows lettuce fine, will be interesting to see your outcome
I bet it will grow, but it will be very slow. Probably stretch a lot and the leaves will be super thin and floppy. Wait till you see the progress my lettuce has made since last week. I'm going to skip the regular lettuce update and just do a 1st harvest update @ 49 days!
I harvested Grand Rapids green leaf and Rouge d'Hiver red romaine lettuce from the DWC under LEDs as well as two Grand Rapids plants from my vertical ebb and flow under 6500k 24W T5s.
The lettuce under the LEDs I am very happy with and I think would be totally adequate even though I expect to get even better harvests in the future because its first week in the DWC had 0 supplemental lighting and then started at a 12 hour lighting period before finally working up to 16 hours for its last week. I don't think much can be taken from the lettuce grown under the T5s since it was obviously just not getting enough light since my herbs are always just getting 12 hours of light and the T5s were not providing what the LEDs were even when they were on.
Grand Rapids in the DWC had a total weight after being cut at its base of 100g.
Rouge d'Hiver in the DWC yielded 98g.
Grand Rapids #1 under T5s yielded 34g.
Grand Rapids #2 yielded 24g.
The plants under the LEDs had much more substantial root mass (they are stained with humic acid not rotten). In addition, the plants under the LEDs had very little non-leafy material while the plants under the T5s were very leggy and had a much more significant proportion of non-leafy material. You can also see the color, texture and health of the plants under the LEDs was superior. The flavor was pretty consistent under both light sources, but the lettuce under the LEDs was much juicier and more substantial in texture.
You can get the gist from the images. The only conclusions that I think can be taken so far are that under greenhouse conditions 4000k white COB LEDs can produce a satisfactory lettuce product in the varieties I have grown. Red pigmentation in the red romaine increased as the DLI increased and hydroponics with DIY LEDs are a lot of fun for a tinkerer like me.

i tried that, i built one myself this fall, it was a unmitigated disaster. I lack the, how do you say, (commitment, patients, skill, insert your own word) ability, to grow in this fashion. Any idea what one of them units costs? I would guess 15k.
That looks similar to my lettuce under t5s. Well, except my heads were "cozy" and had a lovely late autumn edging around all the leaves. When I removed all the edge burn, the lettuce was marginal at best.

Am I mistaken or was the T5 realistically receiving about 11W for the two plants (single T5) while the led is much higher power plus natural light supplementation from the window?
Yeah, the T5 was providing much less light. Less wattage for a shorter period. Right at the light it was providing similar LUX to the LEDs at the surface of the DWC and the plants did reach it, but really not a fair comparison for the T5s. They were both getting about the same sunlight.

Ok, so lettuce under my "Sauce" spectrum was super micro'ized as seen here
Then I switched the lighting to a 4000K Recessed ceiling light and the growth greatly accelerated but in the strangest pattern I have ever seen lettuce grow in.
Almost like a flower lol
I also had to add some heat to the closet to get things moving, pretty counter productive if you ask me?

Very nice
. I know someone who wants to invest in a small home setup for spinach and wants to get good ready to use lights without wasting money on poor performing leds. With all of your experimentation is there a good deal you know of for lights that grow greens well for a good price?
