No nutrients in Horticubes. I belive they claim a "Starter Dose" in Rootcubes but generally by the time a cutting has taken root I have run enough water through them that I start feedung hydro fert at a low dose.

wow, that lettuce looks great, mine tend to get leaf burn. i added cal/mag to the water, moved the light up a bit and added a fan to the grow tent, we will see if that helps.

Sunday lettuce update: greenhouse conditions, sunlight + 4000k COBs @ 20000lux, 14h lighting period, left - Grand Rapids (green leaf lettuce) right - Rouge de Hiver (red romaine)
Middle row was moved into the DWC today (12/4) and are day 14 from seed.
Bottom row is day 21.
Top row is day 28
Upper left/ Lower right are day 42. Just one more week!

I noticed a good response to the two extra hours of light. Everything seemed to grow at a quicker rate even though it was a cloudy week. The green leaf lettuce has a nicer crinkly texture and a bit deeper green color. Not quite sure if the green leaf is stretching a bit for that type of lettuce but the romaine looks like I would expect. The red romaine gained some red color over the first few days and maintained a bit through the week, but could maybe still handle more light if the red color does in fact correspond to DLI though there may be a little tip burn starting on the romaine where it is closest to the window. I am not sure yet if I want to push it up to 16 hours. edit: F it lets go to 16.

The plants are a little droopy in the picture because I took it a few hours after lights out and just did a water change but you can see the progress.

You're making your lettuce flower by giving it so many hours. Lettuce is a long day plant, instead of a short-day flowering plant like Cannabis

I don't think any of my lettuce has bolted. I'm not sure I understand your second sentence. Most lettuce varieties are cool weather plants which I believe would make them short day plants, but I have read studies showing that lettuce can benefit from up to a 24 hour lighting period.

There are short and long day lettuce varieties. They can be long day and still like cool climate (think coastal grown)

I mainly grow "Rex" and it is very good in texture and flavor. Very tender and zero bitter when grown proper.
Generally 50-60 days. In the greenhouse you are at the mercy of mother nature

That's pretty, I hope I can figure out how to get that kind of color in my lettuce.
i was watching this video, and some grower turned green lettuce to red lettuce overnight. They changed the lighting from 6500k to a really narrow band with an led light. There was a time lapsed video, it happened really quickly.

Ill try and track down the video

Yeah I saw one where they did it over a couple days with UV.

There is a big difference in natural and forced coloration. If you want colored lettuce pick a variety that is that way to begin with and use proper FULL spectrum lighting.
I have a pretty good hunch lettuce with forced coloration tastes like doglog - most certainly would pucker your lips with bitterness lol

I wouldn't be surprised, not to mention the desired nutritious qualities that should come along with that pigmentation. Just to clarify, I was referring to that beautiful red color in respect to my red romaine.
