Id say trim some of the buds that look done and try and keep as many big fan leafs still on the plant.
I think that's a good idea. Looking at the plant today, it seemed like some buds were still developing, but a few look done. Maybe I'll try to pull a few and let the rest keep going. Thanks for the input.

Brief photo update.
Both plants seem to have adjusted to their new outdoor surroundings. They got a dose of bloom nutes with the last watering a few days ago and have started putting out new white hairs. The short plant has always smelled nice, but the other plant lost its smell when it got scorched. For the first time, it's giving off a nice smell on the buds which is a good sign. Even though I'm close to the target close date, I think my setbacks tacked on a few weeks to their finish time (and lots of people find they need a week or more beyond what the package calls for). Most of the trichs are still pretty clear.

Another look at the main bud on the short fat plant.

A look at one of the smaller buds on the short fat plant:

Another bud on the short fat plant:

This is what I'm excited about. The skinny plant's buds weren't developing very well, but it seems they have started to puff out. I'm noticing trichs for the first time, and there are new hairs starting to pop. When I bought my microscope a few days ago, there weren't even any trichs to look at on this plant. Looks like with just some more time, they should fatten up like the other plant.

This shows the length of the buds on the skinny plant. If they get as thick as the other plant, they'll be huge since they're so much longer.

Thanks for stopping by. I was pretty distraught when things got bad, but I'm more optimistic now.

Not sure what happened, but the tall skinny plant just up and died on me. Couldn't even salvage anything off her. As for the final remaining plant...

I harvested today. I probably waited too long. Found some bud rot. And found some seeds beginning to form. Lost probably less than 10% of the buds from the rot, but it was disappointing to find, especially since most of it was on the big fat main cola.

Here's the take (shot on standard 8.5"x11" paper:

Here's one of the lower buds that looks like it's producing a bunch of seeds:

It's not too much bud, but I'm glad to have gotten something out of it, considering it's my first grow and I had a few major setbacks.

Once I find some more time, I'll post a recap of the grow with some lessons learned and things I'll change for next time. I'll also post after it's cured and I've smoked some.

Drying went pretty well (so far so good). I transferred to glass jars for curing. I thought the buds were pretty thick, but they're pretty airy now that they've dried. Lots of hairs, not too many crystals.

Without the flash

Rolled on its side to make it look like more :)

For perspective. It's a pretty big jar (used to have fruit in it), but still it's not that much bud.

Lessons learned:
1) A lot of people on here stress the importance of gradually increasing nutrients and usually never reaching the full recommended dosage. There's a reason they stress this.
2) Cannabis can take pretty high temperatures as long as they get plenty of water.
3) If you're going out of town, run your automatic watering system the week before you go; don't wait until the day before to set it up and guess that everything will be alright.
4) Don't mist your plants with a spray bottle. I did not know this.
5) Check for mold in your buds, especially the main colas. I was afraid to touch the buds for fear of messing with the trichs, but mold does a lot more damage than your fingers ever will.
6) Try to find some bagseed if it's your first grow; you're going to mess something up.
7) 40watt CFLs get pretty damn hot (not the bulb, but the ballast). This surprised me. Maybe it's just the brand I used.
8- Growing cannabis is very fun and rewarding.
9) RIU is a good community where seasoned professionals are willing to share their wisdom for the greater good (for the most part).
10) Most people use the same method for germinating seeds. There's a reason. It works. Yes, there's a debate about which way the root should face, but it doesn't really matter. Put it in the soil and have faith that it will pop up soon enough. For God's sake, don't second guess yourself and dig the seed up so you can face the root the other way. That doesn't work.

That's all for now, but I'm sure I'll think of more. The bud is very fun to look at. Still smells weird, but curing should take care of that. It needs to cure for awhile, and I also can't smoke because I have to pee in a cup soon. But once I do smoke some, I'll let you know if it's any good. So far there's 9 seeds/plants started for my first outdoor grow.

you live you learn. No worries... my first harvest was a chocolope plant that stopped budding. Bud didnt even smell like weed. Yielded only a G. and DIDNT GET ME STONED. (I keep the rest of that G for sentimental purposes .. lol)

SECOND GROW:: hindu skunk harvested at week 4 due to stunted growth. I GOT AN EIGHTH. It smelled spicy and delicioso. and YES, IT DID get me stoned.

THIRD GROW:: Burmese kush, LA confidential, and maui waui.: BUDS are a lot denser, fatter, and like the kinds you see on T.V. Harvested at week 6-7. Currently they are drying, and I hope to at least get an OZ and a half.

im actually getting better and better at this. CHEERS!!\

since decemeber 2010.
