Air Injection

Hi people, I want to share an thought/idea with you.

Since oxygen to the root system is so vital for good growth, why not inject, (VERY carefully), small amounts of compressed air into the soil with a long probe crafted specifically for this purpose ?

This idea came to me last night & I would love to hear some input, positive or negative, Thanks, BB

i think if you have perlite in your mix you will be just fine.

but i would be very interested and subscribed if you would try it and compare the differences side by side.

If your going to use compressed gas why not o2. Don't think it would do much good. I think the air would follow your probe up and out leaving very little in the soil. I have thought about some type of sponge in the soil and run small amounts of liquid 02 into it. thought that might get a little more to stay in the soil. but then 100% o2 and hot light would/could be a bad combo.

Hey Stumps, I think the CO2 is for the leaves, oxygen would be more appropriate for the roots.(i think lol).

I plan to try this on a few of my girls & track the results.

How about putting the container in a vapor/gas proof bag, seal around plant stem. then injecting/filling bag with pure oxygen.?.?.?.?.
I have absolutely no idea.......

Don't think I said anything about co2 if ya take the "c" out all you have is oxygen.

sorry, i read your post too fast. I'm not about to get involved with gas bottles & such. I have a small 20lb. tank-air-compressor that I think will work just fine. As for the air returning back up the probe, it's pretty much one-way with compressed air through a nozzel. Thanks for the input, and good grow to you, BB

I ment the air will follow the tube out of the soil when you put it in. try it you'll see what U'm talking about

I kind of think if you try to add any kind of pressurized gas into the soil via tube or probe or what-have-you, the pressure would just allow the oxygen to blow right through the soil and not really be that affective on the root system.

I forgot that members name I think its something like "natmoon" idk im pretty high right now. Anyways, he uses a great technique where he places a sponge in the soil and it acts like an air stone. Then he just gets an air pump and the tubing obv. and just has it on 24/7 I think. The pics where he showed his colas were amazing for the size of his grow medium.

This is the best idea I've heard here. I thought about doing pretty much just that, but i was worried that the air would dry out the roots in the area of the sponge and dead roots are not going to use any Oxygen.?
I use hydrogen peroxide for extra O and i also have an air stone going 24/7 in 5gal jug full of tap water (for oxygen and to remove chlorine), I water all my house plants with it. I think this provides plenty of O. I'd like to see proof of the effectiveness of the sponge or similar technique. I'd like to think that I'm spongeworthy! LOL

I can't find a way around the one problem you'll get forceing air into soil. The air/pressure wants to go somewhere and once it finds a path it would take that path every time.In past grows I've just used a poker extra long and airate the pots.

I would not even attempt to force compressed air into the soil! you will most definitely damage the root system. I wouldn't suggest using a "long poker" to airate the soil. Again, you are definitely damaging the root system.
Simply add perlite to your soil mix.
Scratch around in the top 1" or 1 1/2" of the soil to get even water penetration, but don't go poking into it.
As far as more oxygen to the root system, I still like my idea, in previous post.......

been airateing for as long as I've grown and not just mj. Never has hurt the roots. Hell you can pull the root ball out trim the roots and not hurt the roots. I punch 5-10 holes after each watering. Does it help? Don't know the tomotoes seem to like it, and it don't hurt em at all.

You put air stones in the bottom cover with gravel about a inch over then go with compressed clay balls for three inches then the rest soil too the top of your pot. What I did was put a water pump in the bottom so I could flush out the old water every other day. Basically fill with water till it reaches the top of the clay balls with your nutrient supplement. And let your plant do it's work with it
