mean gene is really the one to keep an eye on ; and i dont think he even breeds for afcionado anymore .

I have yet to find an overly pricey pack that was worth the money.... actually though all the packs i buy are " over priced" ; but i mean the really overpriced ones lol.

long valley from aficionado - meh
the cube from exotix genetics - meh
watermelon zkittlez - 3rd gen - meh

granted; everyone has different taste and luck , but all those were 300 or + and none of them were worht it.... Maybe the starfighter; so you can claim to have clean starfighter genetics to work with.

think creamsicle from unknown prophet was 200 a pack; and every seed that came up was fire. first time seeing legit uniformity like that in an f1 pack. i will pay 200 for something that reliable all day.

You are correct about Gene and he has fire. Rare to get, and starfighter is nice also.

I don't particularly find these guys gear very interesting...but certainly not worth 350 a pack. For 350 a pack Scarlett Johansson better pop out the ground and suck the D.

That said Mean Gene is legit and I think has his own company starting/started?

If you guys wanna be outraged at greed in the industry today though look at the dudes selling overhyped strains like purple punch/wedding cake for like 500 on IG lol...

Not really outraged. If someone is willing to purchase it and it has no affects on my pockets whatever. Free Enterprise; it is for all.

Aficionado may have been worth it when Mean Gene was working with them but I'm pretty sure he has left them to work for himself.

Aficionado has questionable ethics, they acquired some gear from the late Mandelbrot, promised to donate proceeds from the seed sales to Mandelbrots family but they havent seen anything while aficionado is selling them for 3-500 a pack. Not too long ago Leo was just a noob in the PFA group on facebook, so I dont fully trust the company without Gene there.

If you are interested in the Mandelbrot lines that Aficionado is capitalizing on, check out @Emeraldmountainlegacy which is run by Mandelbrot's brother.

The rummors About his brother is that he only got.invovled because mandelbrot died. He had his own life and cannabis was mandlebrots.

More rummors are flying around that he wants in on the canna boom and capitalize on his brothers works.

Well, he's also trying to look after Mandelbrot's two children, one of which suffered a stroke at 3 years old and has major health implications because of it.

Kevin Jodrey also holds them in high esteem. I want their Creme Brulee strain as well as a few they don't have listed but I know they were working on.
Guys I'm just an old stoner coming back to the bud game from the 90s just this year and have a few successful grows under my belt. So far and I've done countless hours of research (again) this year alone.

I learned about growing weed from High Times magazine because it was the only thing that we had I didn't have an internet connection at the time and articles like Malawi gold were routinely read by me over and over again in fact it saddens me so much to see that that plant is almost wiped out considering it used to almost be in every ditch amd farmfback then... Sry..

Edit I just wanted to add that mean Gene is the shit I will agree on that one I just don't care for the Kevin jodrey guy

... Anyway something about this Kevin Jodrey I didn't like and I realized after the first talk that the only thing he knows is business he says he's a successful grower and breeder if you Google him but in all his talks he just says he knows business. Nothing of growing.

I'm sorry to the guy that was looking for the creme brulee strain also because I had to roll my eyes a bit when you said that we've just gone out of control with these names and marketing hype there's no way that every chemovar looks, tastes or smells like creme brule after a single grow season. Granted most Growers know this however people are still spending insane amounts of money for these genetics. Maybe if it was a cut that's a little different.

He actually does a series of interviews called meet the breeders.
If you watch it, you will see some guys like Boneyard are not breeding for uniformity but rather to give you a range of phenotypical expressions to play with yourself.
If you want repeatable weed go buy some autos from Mephisto.

I also remember seeing a short clip of their farm in the mountains. Looked like a nice competent grow. will look it up for you later when I come back. Gotta do a 100-mile round trip to fetch my wife and go by the grow shop for worm castings and stuff.

this is a verv good point actually, I guess I was being a bit cynical.
I actually prefer variance in the strain. I am cuurently growing Ocean Grown Dark Plasma (forum gsc x obi wan og kush) and so far have a couple of very different phenotypes.
when breeding too it is important to keep the gene pool diverse so that we don't lose our coveted plant to a pest or disease.
...also, there is really nothing wrong with autos, I just grew a bunch while sexing and cloning but I will stick with true breed photos. personal preference.

Kevin definitely knows how to grow and he also runs one of the largest nurseries in the emerald triangle.

I think Kevin Jodrey is on the forefront and cutting edge of everything that cannabis is today. And what hes doing lately to try and bring back lost and forgotten cultivars is absolutely amazing. The guy knows what hes doing and has a way of speaking that gets my interest.

That may be true. Like I said. type A personality that has been around, done a decade in prison etc. You recognize the gift of the gab. Always puts me on alert.
If he is working toward preservation great! My goal as well.
I've seen nothing but his consultation videos. now here I am in another life. got my shit together, got a degree, became an enterprize software developer consultant and listen to sales people all day spout the same language so it's hard not to judge.
I should give people the benefit of the doubt although it's hard for me but I do appreciate the people on here talking a little bit more about him because what's out there right now on YouTube portrays him as being the forefront of the industry as an advisor but he admits he's not a cultivator. Maybe it was sarcasm but I swear he said it himself. Anyway just sad to see it moving to the enterprise and out of the hands of the small growers and breeders.
As well envious of course, but I have to ask myself when I see others like Vader from Ocean Grown doing everythingeI want I'm not envious of him...need to look inside a bit:)
cheers!

I realize this is an older thread but I just wanted to be clear I did my research and went back and watched some of the other videos with Kevin Jodrey and the guy really does know his stuff.
The thing that I have to remember is what is the audience in the particular? The talk that I saw him in at first was a business talk he was doing a consultation on what's going to be the next hottest thing. Since then however I've listened to a bunch of panels that have him in the linup, many through universities, University of Oregon etc.
He is very knowledgeable in all aspects of cannabis, breeding, lighting, terpenes you name it he knows it.
Just wanted to thank you again for pushing me to take another look. otherwise I would be missing out on some great information.

Look he is no agronomist, but he knows as much as the layperson can... which is often more in certain hands-on respects.

I had a Magnum Opus male come my way in my breeding program, being a male you cant really judge wha a fem might be like but; the node spacing was about 1" for most of its life upping tto 6 for the final stretch (1 month veg and he only grew to be about a foot and a half maybe less). The pollen sacs were tiny compared to my lemon mob (which was also 3 times the height), and it smelled of nothing. The lemon mob reeked of lemon skunk from several feet away but even isolated, scraping the sides with a knife I got nothing from the magnum opus. No experience with fems yet, I only bred it for the node spacing and the weird leaves. It has a prehistoric look to it, idk how else to describe it.

I have a magnum opus 11th grn pack I popped a few. 2 makes and 2 females. The males started out really nice. Planned on using one or both. I flowered him and almost all the pollen smacks on both were damn near empty. Neither had a nose to him. I ended scrapping both males. Now the two females I have one is still in a solo and jus getting root bound to all beat hell. Shes prob been in it for 2.5 months. The other is in flower. And is just pitiful. In a 2gal smarty. Stretch was about 5 inches total. No lie. A true shit show so far. Super small buds. 4 outta 10 on frost level. Unless it's just some crazy high smoke nvr again will I run their shit. I will take a clone from the vegging female root it and flip it. And see if shes any good.

First female in flower. BTW that's the main cola on it. Lol at like 40 days of flower so far, lol.
