I'm somewhere in the middle. I have one and like it a lot. But use it mainly for herbs and cloning.

Thinking/trying out keeping a micro mum. Keep it cut down. Then when I want to grow again, let it go for a few weeks, root 6 clones (in the AG if it has room) Then veg for a month in a 1 gal grow bag. Plop the bag on top of a 4 gal bucket and toss into flowering.

I kinda look at it as an R&D tool. Seems a bit small for larger growing plants. Though plenty here have shown its quite viable.

I heard the that the aerogarden nutes have buffered pH levels. Should I still check the pH level? Should I use spring or distilled water? My master gardener grow kit came with small and large tabs. When do I use them? Should I dissolve them in the water before I transplant my sprouts? Thanks!

you dont need to check ph with them, if you try to add ph down or up to it, it will just kill your plants
i do check the ph to tell me when the nutes are starting to wear down
id use spring water
you can use 2 small tabs or one big tab
you can dissolve them before you put them in but you dont have too, i used too but its just a pain, and theres not really any benefit to doing it that way either
get it goin, post some pics :-D
happy growin man

Hey nirvanaphreak!!
Thanks for the quick response! My Master Gardener Kit came with 18 small nutrient tabs and 14 large nutrient tabs. The Gourmet Herb seed kit came with two 'startup tabs' and 14 'growing nutrients'. Which would you reccommend using and how often? The booklet that came with the master gardener kit suggests for plants with upright main stems using 2 small nutes initially and every two weeks 2 large nutes. My pro200 has an 'add nutrient' light that will blink red every two weeks. For some reason I was set on using distilled water, but a lot of people get great results using spring so I will switch. Thanks again!

no probs
2 small ever 2 weeks or 1 big every 2 weeks
2 small = 1 big
they are the same so it doesnt matter which ones you wanna add
you could go 1 small every week if you wanted

adjusting the ph with ag nutes is possible and WILL NOT kill your plants I did it the first 2 weeks with mine and they are sitting a good 16" tall now. Yes they have a buffer but it can be overridden.

wassup guys, ok am on my 3rd or 4th attempt now, I promise you I have read every post on here about aerogarden and see people speak about how they get root rot from the aerogarden due to the heat..but I have a major question

Has anyone figured out a way to prevent it...
my temps only go to about 80 on the high and now that fall is rolling around I doubt it gets even that hot were am at.
I have a 5 1/2" airstone(walmart)
a 40gal pump
i have superoxy
I was using recipe for success for my last attempt but for this grow I am using gh flora nutes

am just a lil nervous cause usually around my 1st week into flowering I get root rot and can never save the plants once they get it
just curious if anyone can help me...thanks in advance

Wow ok, some mixed results and conclusions here.
"High like planes" - Ok i put 2 nutes in i had 3 plants on the AG Deluxe, and my plants are fucked....2 got MASSIVE burns (i'm fairly sure it was nute burn) and the other one is starting to get it now, they are only 2 weeks old. So i don't know if what i did was wrong or right but thats what happened so be careful.
"Nirvarna" - I got a PH Downer and applied it till my ph was a little above 6 but i need to know if thats what killed my plants before i go changing my setup.
Thankyou for everyone elses posts they are all helpfull
Cheers all, these are only ideas

If you are getting root rot, you have can use H2O2 at, at least 35%, or lower the res temp. Down below 60. Both might be good too.

If you use the H2O2, You can NOT use organic nutes. It will kinda kill them. You also get the perk of more O2 in the water.

Good luck

If it's not heat and you're using an airstone then it could be one more thing. If your still flushing your rez and you are taking the top off to do so you may be smashing some of your roots when you put it back in. When I do a flush I just let them drink up all the water for a couple days. Then, I add my nutes and what not I no longer rinse my rez because it is too big of a hassel it's a damn root soup in there. I've been doing it since the 3rd week and no problems.

i use a syphon to drain the rez when needed. it's too much hassle taking the top off the ag as volcomi says. as for temps causing root rot, my rez temp hangs around 26c/81f and i have no probs.

I wanted to thank everyone for all of the great information! Just bought the Aerogarden today ($70 at Big Lots, if anyone is looking to buy one) after reading posts for the last few days. Very helpful for a clueless newbie like myself! Much love

Hey everybody!!!

My name is Gypsy and I love my Aerogarden... lol

I am in week 5 of flowering 4 clones...:-P

The AG has allowed me to have a grow in a hotel room...:o... I am in the big city, undergoing physical therapy after a severe injury... and instead of going crazy... 7 months in a hotel room...:wall:... I got an AG...

You can take a peek at my journal and see that I have modified the lights quite a bit... and I am getting ready to do another big re-vamp...

I still don't need a lot of smoke but I do want it to be the best quality I can make it...

My plan (once I am back home) is to have 4 trays (1 AG and 3 DIY "AGs") flowering under the 600 watt HPS with an 8" cool tube I just ordered...:idea::o:idea::idea:

Waay overkill , I know, but if I ever decide to grow more, or bigger, I will be ready... :weed:

Right now I have a concoction of lights over and around the AG...

Oh! by the way, I have not had my AG on it's base for weeks now... it is just a reservoir with an airstone... I donated the original hood and base (to hold the light) to The Alpha Beta Project - A Miniature Aquaponic Farm

So, on to the lights I am currently using...

10 x 26 watt CFLs
1 x 35 watt HPS
2 x 70 watt HPS
1 x 100 watt MH

Soooo, I am running over 400 watts in a bunch of lights that are doing an acceptable job ... but I figured I should just bite the bullet and commit...:leaf::-P:leaf:

The AG has taught me so much... there is no way I could ever bash it... every home should have one... have you guys seen the 3 hole units???? perfect for flowers in the corner of your desk... the whole program, cannabis or not is great...!!!

But I must say... right now, my AG is just a tank with a lid that has holes in it... the base right now is holding ZEN STYLE mini DWC trays with food and cannabis seedlings, along with my future mum...

So, one would have to agree that it can be done cheaper...

But I have been one to always defend the convenience factor and also the fact that it helps to remove some of the "magik" out of the whole thing, bringing it down to a practical level that most of us can relate to...

I mean... I'm in my room, in a wheel chair, and I dial around until I locate a store that carried it... then called a cab to get my money, go buy the thing and bring it back to me...

There is no other way I would have gotten into growing IN MY HOTEL ROOM...!!! Thanks AG...!!!

Well ... enough rambling... here are a few pictures from my thread, just to make it worth the read, i guess... lol

Well... I hope you guys liked that... sorry for jumping the middle there... but you get the idea...

Thanks again for starting this wonderful thread!!!!

Cheers...

I had this problem and read about it a lot with people using the aerogarden. Once you have roots that are submerged ( like you do if you are in flowering ) then unplug the aerogarden and just use the airstone ( that is if you have one and are using it ... if not get one!) This is also if you have the lights on a seperate figure 8 cord. The aerogarden at no matter what setting over waters the roots ( unless you are using a foam plug that just traps the top of the stalk but I doubt you are cause those are best for cloning)

Best solution from experiance is just turning of the pump and letting the unit be a DWC. 2 cents good luck.

my roots are submerged and there is plenty of them and i'm only 3 weeks into veg. i also have the aerogarden on the tomatoes setting (18/6 i believe for the water pump). i also grew from tap rooted seed.

i would agree tho that if you have roots in the water and some airstones then the ag pump can be turned off.
