Yes! cfl can and do out preform hps's! I have done it for the past four years. check out any on the pic.'s all of my plants are grown ONLY under cfl's. Now the problem with the TYPE of cfl's that most are using. Thery are shit!! Try looking up on the internet this type of cfl's they are called ho-t-5 lights they come in two ft, and four ft, models. The come in two ft. two bulb model two two ft, eight bulb model. On the two ft. blbs are 3,000lumens each, and come in 6500k ,and 300k(flowering) bulbs. The four ft. models come in two bulb all the way up to eight bulb unit. This with the proper mix of bulbs will flower out six plants. Cfl are better than h.p.s.'s but not thoses little 23 watts lights are for reading only!! Try these new flyros you will be happy, and ove the return, ie; MASS BUDS!!!The two ft.x four ft. eight bulb unit puts out 40,000 lumens and if ya have six of theses you can too! do 24 plants at one time no heat, no extra blowersmaking nosie, and using more power than needed, get the point? no extrea b.s. just to run lights?? Oh! there a better light thanall theses called P.S.L. lighting but cost a shit load of bucks!! like 1800 per light last 1,000,000.00 hours and 700 wattt models = 10, TEN! 600 watt h.p.s. in lumens and in the light range that the plant uses, not like half the light from any h.p.s. is NOT!! USED!! the plant turn it into heat and trys to get rid of it threw its leafs and roots, brighter doses NOT!! mean better, just bigger electric bills that all peace and pot, sees.

Sure t-5's are good and expensive. The 4ftx8bulb unit is around 4oo.oo, so for me, I'd need 5. Now with my hood setup I get a few more watts and 40% the price for the same coverage. I use 4 125w CFL's per hood. I just cruised a bit, couldn't find any info on PLS grow lights, have you got a site?

Hey Another......what hood do you get 4 125w CFL's into? I've been curious about that type of set-up.

Alright. each hood is 32x20. LxW Height is10 in.Easiest way is cut the plywood 10 wide then measure 20 at the bottom then find centerpoint. go to top, then 6 in either side of center point.

You then cut 1 12x32 and 2 10x32 I'ts not pretty or square due to overlap on ends but *shrug* We're not going to send pics to Better stones of Gardeners either*g* Bulb placement. Stagger the bulbs.1 one side next the other. You'll have 2 bulbs from each side. When drilling the holes.Drill down 6 in..clearence at top. Make the holes the exact size, or smaller and file it out.

The bulbs will sit at an angle...I put hose clamps around the socket with a piece of wire on the bottom which I attached to a screw under it. This way you can make the bulb hang horizontal. Drill a bunch of holes randomly in sides and on top for heat venting. If and I say If I can figure out how to post pics, I'll post them too you.

Good lookin' out Last and Another! I have been curious about a hood that would hold multiple CFL's, like 125w, with 2 to 4 hanging inside. Do you guys think the light dispersment is greater from a horizontal or vertical hanging bulb? Pics would be appreciated if at all possible.

Check these mulitple CFL hoods out:

http://www.basementlighting.com/envirolites_and_ecolites.htm

They have hoods for 2, 4 or 6 CFL's. Scroll to bottom of page and click the last picture with 2 CFL's under 1 hood. Dope boy fresh!!

I'm feeling that first pic Lastfrontier !! That shit is dope. I want CFL's for my Mother and clone area. I'll push the 250w HPS for the flower room since I have 32 x 32 inches. I can run a 2ft x 2ft Scrog in there with 4 plants. I could do a 400w, but since I plan on doing mostly Scrog's, I don't need all that light penetration OR heat.

With the larger bulbs horizontal works best because the bulbs can be uniformly close to the plants. Mine are about 1-2 in, I also have an oscillating fan on them for movement and a little heat dispersement though it doesn't get that hot. I can put my hand between the lights and plant tops and no burn.

I guess as long as you have a reflector, it won't really matter. I'm curious about light dispersment from the cfl's that don't have one.

Spit that knowledge!! LOL Good idea with the wire mesh guard!! You get another +rep for that shit alone.

Yeah, I have them but I'm more of a visual and tactile person. I can do it by looking at pics or diagrams. I want to put cfl's (2 - 125w) in my mother/clone tent, which is a darkroom dr40.......2ft L x 2ft W x 4ft H. I'll use the 250w hps for flowering for more light penetration with maybe 2 125w cfl's added in the other tent....31.5in x 31.5in x 64in

If you have pics with step by step, that'll be nice. If not, it's cool. You've been a real help already.
