Advanced Nutrients-Not So Bad!

This thread is for thread is for the nubs that our unsure of the investment.
And most importantly those who hate on AN.
Now after much research I have found myself going back and forth on what to choose for Nutrients.
So after much hair pulling and confusion I decided to figure out some numbers and balance my cost against possible yield. So I decided to go with the infamous Advanced Nutrients.

Now to start 1st off I'll be getting Grow/Micro/Bloom, also the Hobbyist Level including Voodoo Juice, Big Bud, B-52 and Overdrive.

G/M/B- $148 10L+1L
Hobbyist- 4L Voodoo($330) 4L Bid Bud($137) 4L B-52($120) 1L Overdrive($40)
Total- $775. Well say 900$ after Shipping and Taxes.

Now I have figured a 120L Reservoir at 3/4 strength in a C.A.P Ebb & Gro 12 Bucket, changing nutrients once a week.
2 Week Seedling, 6 Week Veg, 9 Weeks Flower.
With my $900 worth of AN Nutrients I can go 2 full cycles.
Now at 3 Oz a plant which I believe is underestimated totals 36 Oz a grow. 2.25Lbs
Good weed cost $280 a Oz but ill say $250. Therefore $9000 a grow. $18 000 for 2.

My Total Nutrients for two grows equal 5% of total possible profits. (900/18000)

Now here I overestimated everything that would bring my profit down, and underestimated everything that would bring my profit up.

Without boring you with the numbers I have calculated what I believe will be my actually outcome.
At 75L Reservoir 1/2 Strength with 4 Full Cycles(Veg+Flower) with same amount of Nutrients($900).
If I was to get another 4L G/M/B it would be 6 for $1020 but forget that.

I'm still only going to pull 3oz per plant but at my $280 Oz.
4(cycles)x12(plants)x3(oz)x280($)= $40 320.

My Total Nutrients for two grows equal 2% of total possible profits. (900/40320)
Now for the ease of follow a simple Nutrient Calculator I think I can make a sacrifice of 2%-5% for guaranteed results no F-ing around.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but this seems very reasonable to me if you've invested the money in the proper gear.

Of course it seems reasonable, and it is, but it's about what you're paying per pound of product. There are a colossal number of commercial growers who use nothing but a 3 part base nutrient, and are getting huge sticky buds with the lucas formula, a good dialed in program with some Co2. That works out for them to be about 20-30$ per pound of yielded product.

Now, you might see bigger yields by using all these additives, but you really need to look at your dollar per pound investment, and decide what's best for you. I've done the math and to use most of AN's recommended line, you'll be spending about 120-150$ per pound of product, vs a lucas formula growers 20$. Will it give you a better product? This isn't a surefire thing. My experience tells me the grower has a much bigger impact on the success of the plant vs a bunch of gimmicky additives (not to say the ones you've selected are necessarily gimmicky). Some of the things that i've witnessed having more of an effect than any additive ever could: Adding co2, keeping temperatures consistent, having a steady and safe ppM, staying on top of your pH, keeping a clean grow room, etc.

To put things in perspective, the additive that is adding an incredible amount of cost to your overall bottom line is voodoo juice. Voodoo juice is a great microbial product, ive used it myself, but all it does is promote root growth. That's great! Bigger roots = bigger yields. But guess what, it also restricts you from using any sort of root zone cleaning product, and removes your ability to run a sterile chemical environment (which is worth a lot of money in my opinion). Hydrogen peroxide gave me BETTER results than voodoo juice, and can be used every single week for very, very cheap. Don't get me started about the perils of using organics in a hydro setup, use at your own risk my friend.

My advice? Do a run with your AN line, then snip out the additives, and just do a run with the 3 part. Measure your results, make up your own mind.

I just want to make it crystal clear... of course it's a reasonable rate of return on your investment. It's a PHENOMINAL return... but how much of that return do you want going into your pocket, and how much into AN's? Think about it.

This is your product, and it's YOUR MONEY. If they charge you 800$ and you gain a few pounds of product, that's great for both of you, but it's WAY too great for them. Your plants, your risk, your daily efforts, your rewards.

By the way, I think you need to be more realistic about the prices you're using for bud. If you're buying or selling intelligently at those quantities, you won't be paying 280$ or $250 an ounce. If you're the kind of moron that grows 8 pounds of dope then sells 8th's at the front door, I stand corrected.
