A Word About Bag Seed

with all the pollen chuckers flooding the market these days the idea of "breeders are always better" isn't always the case. sure there are tried and true breeders with legendary genetics, but unadulterated bagseed snobbery is not exactly enlightened. i'd say around 30% of the bagseed i've grown have been keepers (out of the females) and the rest were so-so or total crap. but that 30% is nothing to shake a stick at. if you buy from a ripoff breeder you could have the same success rate, just for a higher price.

so to recap: bagseed doesn't always suck, and all breeders don't put out quality genetics. for a newbie who's never grown and is on a budget, bagseed is an excellent choice. i've been growing for years and i still pop seeds from random sacks and even accidental offspring from my own crops.

my opinion based on my experience is that the quality of the parent plant will dictate the quality of the offspring. by this i mean that if a real stable plant somehow pollinates itself, the seeds have a good shot at being female rather than herm. with an unknown or inferior parent, not so much.

Im growin some bagseeds now, from some dispensary shit that was at best, crap. it looked good, and smelled good during the cut, but wast very sticky. had a shitload of seeds (which pissed me off at $80 an 8th) and tasted like WD40 when burnt. (which REALLY pissed me off) it was a good plant that was so badly mistreated as to be worthless, then sold by a shiftless "dispensary" as top quality Blueberry Yum Yum. Fuckin twats will never see my cash again! but the plant didnt do it, so i'm giving her a second chance! if, as i suspect, she grows into a delicious and fragrant goddess, ill even try makin a clone go hermaphrodite to pollinate a few. Shit's only a month old but already smells real nice, bushy with deep green foliage and close node spacing, even under my flourescents. When i open my shed door the scent rolls out like perfume, mixing with the jasmine planted around the shed to conceal telltale aromas. I cant even describe how nice that shit is smelling and its still vegetating! The foliage smells sweeter than some buds i have smoked, and it hasnt even grown it's 6th node yet! Imma let this sexy little harem grow till they are strong and full, then clone em to sex em, then bud the living shit out of them!

damn thats a beatiful trait, those pink hairs. should have bred with it. i think bag seed breeding is the shit. it preserves the genetics.. i never want to loose an yof my genetics.. so gotta keep fresh seeds around.

we should start a thread, where you take a picture of the bud you get the seed from and then grow the seed and then document the grow. im deffinately gunna grow some bagseed this year i saved a good variety of bagseeds . will probably make three or so new crosses out of them.

lol im still kicking myself in the ass for not getting a clipping. i got lucky with another bagseed this year though, it came from some potent shit and smells like sweet blueberrys and smokes like candy. she was purple since day 1 too, even in high temps like the upper 80s to 90s. she revegging currently but i got a few beans off her since i crossed her with another bagseed from more high grade, im saving those beans till next month though.
its almost ridiculous how much better bagseeds can turn out so much better than the bag they came from.IMG_1718.jpgIMG_1706.jpgIMG_1716.jpgIMG_1719.jpgIMG_1697.jpgIMG_1743.jpgIMG_1725.jpgIMG_1721.jpg

she also getting crossed with a light sensitive strain, it should be blueberry x (iranian auto flower x seawarp), should be interesting. also if i see some cool phenos out of the batch of seeds she gave me i might do some crosses with that. all the crosses are gonna be backcrossed with a clone though, or the original mother if i can reveg her twice. should be interesting.

thats whats up. i feel like shit also cause i had a couple of bagseeds seedlings die that came from some fairly good weed. fuckin rushing shit.
feel like its lost genetics and phenos that could have been awsome. fuck!

Hey Crazy i was readin your purple bagseed journal and you dont use hydroponics at all?

Im usin Deep water Culture and i left my shit all alone for over a week, and they was doin great when i got back (mom needed help around her house) as long as your bubblepump stays workin and you change your water every 2 weeks or so, shit just stays on track. (cept raising the lights. had to remove a few fanleaves that got into the Flourescents and burnt a little) Upshot is my momma now has an outdoor DWC for tomatoes and bell peppers in a 20 gallon tote. on the youtubes theres some aussies who grow in DWC outdoors as well. i donno how good they did but it was interesting.

i might actually try DWC with a marigold just to get the hang of it, i heard its pretty easy. outdoor dwc sounds cool, feel like temps would effect it or possible pH fluctuation could occur, who knows. i do mostly organics, im trying technaflora for the rest of this run along with some rich organic vermi-compost, i use some bat guano for flower as well.

as well as cannabis, Im doin tomatoes of a stable variety (supersteak) in a separate DWC (under lights) so i can judge performance against her sister in organic soil and worm compost. since my understanding is cannabis requires basically the same conditions as tomatoes i can compare my sneaky sub-rosa hydro setup against my outdoors organic traditional grow by comparing two identical tomato plants performance. so far sunlight and soil is growing faster, but hydro and flourescents are making a denser healthier plant (no pests prolly helps too, i gotta spray my organic natural aphid and whitefly cure every week or so outside) outdoors in soil is nearly twice as big (but a little leggy), and inside in hydro is really dense with more flowers and deeper green foliage. my cannabis is doin great too, seein as i started germinating the seeds on 4/20 and they are already ~10 inches high with 5 nodes spaced about 1.5 - 2 inches apart. even some minor light burn didnt slow em down. Im keepin a detailed log for comparison and recording events as well, since this is m first grow since the 80's

plus with a tomato you can judge the taste with hydroponics too, which is kinda important.

nice, im gonna have to do a side by side with tomatoes i guess. i got much better at cloning too, marigolds are great practice and they keep away mites.

My first grow was bagseed and I did alright with it. Yielded an 0, learned tons, mostly what not to do and got a better product than the bag it came out of by far. I'm a firm believer in growing more than mj too so as to be able to really grow as a gardener.

All good pot comes from a seed, Ive grown good pot from bag seed, occasionally you pull a psudo, its a crap shoot. If your new to the game it's not a terrible Idea to hone your skills useing these beans. If you don't find What WE are ALL looking for try some banked seeds. Same thing applies there, look for something outa the ordinary in your bank seeds too! If you grow out a group of reg bank seeds and one looks out of place you could have a psudo or just a missed placed seed, from the supplier or the seed bank. Once again a crap shoot. peace, by the way the avatar to your left originaly came from bag seed.

You have the safest chance of not bringing anything into your garden with any type of seed. I think all gardens mothers should come from seed. picking up clones from others and dispensary's is a huge risk especially for new growers. Cloning off your own mothers is risk free but bringing in others clones is bringing in others problems. I have had my most successful mothers and grows all come from seed. I have also had gardens ruined by bringing in clones with resilient spider mites from dispensary's thinking that they would be bug and disease free. Plus you never know what generation the clones your getting are if they are from the original mother with strong genetics or a clone of a clone of a clone with weak genetics.

The "top shelf" dope is unbelievably expensive in my area, despite proximity to the best dope growing county in the world (Humboldt Placer and Siskyou counties), as most of the good stuff gets shipped to LA and SF. I sent a freind out to score the stuff for me from a "reputable" dispensary, but i feel like i got rooked by a phony Rasta in a dreadlock wig at the bus depot. (sorry flashin back to the 80's). Sadly when it became quasi legal a legitimate supply and demand market started up, and some hucksters, and grifters set up Dope-In-The-Box franchises all over california. They sell shit weed at high prices and youre stuck with it, or you can hit the black market and get railed by phony Rastas in dreadlock wigs. Thats actually why im growin now

???? Propagation from cuttings doesnt have the generational genetic degradation of actual cloning (to my knowledge this only actually happens in science fiction) in other plants, and i dont think cannabis is different on that score. Theres a lot of plants which are propagated from tissue cultures (every commercial banana in stores since the 1950's comes from a single mutant seedless plant called the cavendish cultivar) and many more propagated solely from cuttings (almost every varietal rose in existence, and most varietal fruit and nut trees) generation after generation for decades, and in a few cases, for hundreds of years (banyan trees) without any genetic degradation.

Almost all microorganisms reproduce asexually, and almost every plant can do it under the right conditions (strawberries do it extensively and with little provocation) Most snails slugs nematodes and worms can reproduce hermaphroditically by self fertilizing, and can do this for generations with no perceptible genetic drift.

I recon you got a weak, stressed or diseased cutting if you have had a problem with "clones"

wow maybe i am long winded... aint that a bitch.

I love pheno hunting, take a nug of seeded weed, plant em all and look for the best ones.

I have one at the moment which is like godzilla compared to any of her 7 sisters, even her clones are big ass mofos.

usually the supply from the dispensaries is a little overpriced but good weed. this place just hosed my friend who was pickin up my "prescription" from a local Dope-In-The-Box for my crippled ass. It was closer than my usual place and $100 worth of Blueberry Yum Yum is the same every where, just like campbells soup right? I didnt wanna hurt her feeling so i didnt make a stink about it, but it really burns my ass. I kinda laughed a little when they got shut down. One of the few places in my area that really was Not Fully Compliant with prop 215. they were sellin mexican cartel trash compactor weed, oxycodone and meth too out the back door.
