Will Palin Choice Make Guns an Election Issue? | Newsweek Politics: Conventions | Newsweek.com

Excerpt-

Like many Alaskans, Gov. Sarah Palin is a lifelong hunter and strong proponent of Second Amendment rights. A longtime member of the National Rifle Association, she told USA Today when she was running for governor as a Republican in 2006 that "We hunt as much as we can, and I'm proud to say our freezer is full of wild game we harvested here in Alaska." Her own parents had just returned from hunting caribou when they learned that she had been tapped as Sen. John McCain's running mate.

www.kansascity.com | 09/03/2008 | In speech, VP nominee Palin highlights her outsider status

Excerpt-

ST. PAUL, Minn.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Wednesday she would accept her party’s vice presidential nomination, highlighting her family – and her improbable journey from “hockey mom” to a national campaign.
“I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment,” she told Republican delegates, and millions watching on television. “I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this great country.”

Her speech – highly anticipated since Sen. John McCain picked her last Friday – was greeted with stomping, sign-waving, cheering applause in the packed Xcel Energy Center.
It’s the first time the GOP has selected a woman for their ticket.

Palin, 44 years old and a first-term governor, talked about her family as they looked on from a special box just off the floor of the convention.

“No family ever seems typical, and that’s how it is with us,” she said. “Our family has the same ups and downs as any other. The same challenges, and the same joys.”
She referred to her parents – and her husband, Todd: “He’s still my guy.”

Palin repeatedly praised McCain – “a true profile in courage,” she said – while taking several obvious swipes at Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.
“I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities,” she said to laughter and applause.

Hey, cc ...

I was thinking after Palin's speech last night, that a great symbolic gesture would be for her to come to the debates with Biden sans lipstick. What do you think? :bigjoint:

Obamas "thunder" was the sound of the cell door closing on America. Palin just blew up the jail!!!! "HOPE is not a strategy, just like change is not a destination".......Thompson from his un-aired speech.

Palin - we're about to be victorious in Iraq and Obama wants to bring the troops home. Said in her speech last night.

Man, you just don't pay attention, Med.

I've never said I was an Independent. An Independent is someone who either has no concrete convictions, or is someone who is hiding behind the Independent facade in order to hide their true convictions.

As I've said here many times, I have been registered as a LIBERTARIAN for over 25 years. Unlike you, I am upfront about my political convictions, which are ... lower taxes, a smaller, less intrusive federal government, free markets and free minds. Exactly what Sarah Palin stands for based upon her very principled speech last night. These were very clear, principled words spoken by Palin last night ... something you will NEVER hear during the campaign from O'Bama. He can't reveal his true convictions to the American people because his chances of being elected would b nil.

Probably the most sane comment on Iraq ever. It was the british that drew the boundaries and made the Kurds, Sunnis and Shia all live in one country. Before they had been happy being separated and most likely they would be again. This temporary "peace" in Iraq is the product of paying off the combatants to not fight. when the money runs out, it will be business as usual

You must not be old enough to remember the press conference after 9/11 when Bush announced we were attacking Iraq to go after Saddam. A reporter asked why we were going after Saddam when Bin Ladin was the guy who did the WTC.

Bush replied "He tried to kill me father"

SOme poeple.......No I can't play copy and paste, I saw it on a televised Special report.

Know what miss? I usually like your posts, but when making assertions like the one above, you will be asked to prove it.

Bush has never said those words. The leftist media has though.

I watched the press conference myself. I actually sat right here in my house and watched it. That was the day that I became a true hater of Bush. All I could think is "my kid is going to be old enough for the draft in a few years and our president is starting a war with someone over that"?

http://archives.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/09/27/bush.war.talk/

And, in discussing the threat posed by Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, Bush said: "After all, this is the guy who tried to kill my dad."

eat me.

Palin "bridge to nowhere" line angers many Alaskans

In the city Ketchikan, the planned site of the so-called "Bridge to Nowhere," political leaders of both parties said the claim was false and a betrayal of their community, because she had supported the bridge and the earmark for it secured by Alaska's Congressional delegation during her run for governor.

"She said 'thanks but no thanks,' but they kept the money," said Elerding about her applause line.

"You don't tell a group of Alaskans you support something and then go to someplace else and say you oppose it," said Phillips, who supported Palin's opponent, Democrat Tony Knowles, in the 2006 gubernatorial race.
