Even in the fray of politics there is some common ground. Example: If some foriegn entity invaded our country, I'm pretty sure every man that owned a gun would be willing to defend his country, kind of like the Iraqis are doing.

If you want or need to belong to a church or religion thats great. Just remember that the church/religion came about to control the masses. You can't fault any ones religious views because they are in most cases taught form birth and A child will trust there parents for a good long time. long enough to have their brains programed to belive in something. So on goes the war who is the all mighty. To me it sounds like a case of my winkie is bigger then your winkie.

Do you believe in string theory? How would we be able to make this prediction since its an infinitesimally small entities. Its pretty wild if you ask me, but I have never actually ventured into the subatomic cosmos so I don't have the faintest clue. :mrgreen: To imagine that we are all quintessentially just oscillating 'string' at various frequencies is pretty wild stuff.

They say gravity might be a 'closed loop string' and capable of effecting things in parallel universes because of the closed loop. Thats why gravity is so weak relative to the other forces-because it only partially interacts with our universe......:confused: Idk, its kinda intense stuff.

Do I believe there is a theory called string theory? yes i do. Do I believe string theory is accurate? I have no idea - arguably, it isn't really science right now since we can't test any predictions that it makes - but that will change. To be honest, I have a hard time wrapping my head around big bang - string theory is way beyond my comprehension.

If the predictions it makes are observed to be true, that will only be one piece of evidence. If it is false, we'll have to scrap it and come up with something different.

This whole creation v. evolution thing is STILL pretty silly. It was absurd 30 years ago when I was in college and nothing has changed.

There are NO complete fossil records of any animal on earth. There are always "missing links" in the chain of developments. Also, there are many other unresolved issues, as well.

However, examples of accelerated development do exist in some cases. For example the development of superior staff strains in super-clean hospitals or the development of rattlesnakes without rattlers.

So this is a conundrum with no conclusion. Sort of a modern day argument about which came first, chickens or eggs. In other words, both creationists and evolutionists are correct and wrong. Both at the same time.

No, I don't have 'faith' in the fact we descended from monkeys, but I look at the vast ammounts of FOSSIL EVIDENCE (they have found many examples of 'missing links') and come to MY OWN CONCLUSIONS.

I don't KNOW where the lightning came from, and unlike religion I don't pretend to KNOW.

My personal 'Crackpot' beliefs about lightning, energy, The Universe, God, EVERYTHING are every bit as FAR FETCHED as your religion, however I don't present these beliefs in a SCIENTIFIC DEBATE and try and pass them off as SCIENCE.

Well is proves we are made of the same things as all life that has evolved on our planet.

As they learn more about what each part of DNA actually codes, they are working out what mutations have occured (i.e. small changes in DNA) to create the different features we see in different life forms.

It doesn't PROVE anything as such (but then what does in your mind?), but if you use LOGIC and PROBABILITY you can see what it suggests.....

I was wondering if, because all other living specie on earth functions from instinct, and Man has the ability to THINK and REASON, means anything to anyone posting in this thread. Or ... is the ability to think and reason just a happenstance of chance?

There are few presumptions here that I question.

First, I am certain that humans aren't the only creatures that can think and I am dubious that we are the only ones that reason. I grant you that humans seem to "think" this ability is the be all, end all but its survival worthiness remains to be seen.

And you seem to think Natural Selection is equal to chance when in fact it is just the opposite of chance. Chance would allow any mutation to develop whereas Natural Selection allows only mutations that have some survival benefit (though the purpose may elude our "reasoning" and appears to be chance).

Oh, Man is definitely a survivor. One of the best on the planet. But he was gifted with the ability to reason as well. Take my cat for example. Now, this is one of the "smartest" cats on the planet, and yet, she just looks at me as though I'm nothing more than the cook. What kind of reasoning is that? :mrgreen:

What kind of cat do you have?

And if I recall correctly on the earths time-line, compared to other creatures such as alligators we(homosapiens)are new comers to earth. The term "survivors" is a relative term and has to be compared to something else. Look at how long dinosaurs were around for- most of them are dead now.
