7 Weeks in, how much longer?

This girl is a Amnesia Haze x Manga Rosa I got from The Attitude seedbank.

This is my first grow, im doing it under a 250w HPS in a 2:1 soil: perlite mix.

Had a bit of trouble with excess Nitrogen during flowering, but think I have that under control at the moment.

Week 7 flowering:

i think about a week or 2 to go? am i anywhere close?

It starting to get a lot more frosty everyday, at a rapid rate. I have been using a 0-6-16 plant food since 2 week of flowering, with a Kelp based growth stimulator (contains cytokinins and natural auxins) since the 4th week flowering. Although, i saw very slow/stunted growth in the first 3 weeks which i found was as a result of excess nitrogen. (x-large and very dark green leaves, eagle claw, slowed transition from veg to flowering).

Another way to know when its ready if u get like a pocket magnifying glass like at radio shack or sumptin its like $8 check out the trichromes and when u see them start to go from clear to an almost milky white then ur plants should be ready, its kinda hard to go off the color of the hairs cause I'm pretty sure some strains their hairs will stay white till ur hair grown white and falls out. But I could be full of s*it on that one cause all the strains I've grown so far have turned color.

It looks like a lovely plant Africandream. Here's my take on things. I am not a trichome watcher as I believe every strain has differing levels of when and how there trichomes change. Some say to chop when you see amber and milky trichomes, but some strains take ages to produce amber, and of course, not all strains are producing the same resin. So I generally go from how a plant looks in general. Basically you are applying a uniformed technique to a non uniformed thing....same technique, different plants if you know what I mean.

A plant is mature when it is no longer trying to pollenate itself. This means no more stigma's sticking up looking for pollen in the air. So the stigma's (hairs) will crinkle and receed. When they ALL start doing this the calyxes will start swelling massively and the hairs almost get swallowed up by them. THIS IS WHEN MY PLANTS ARE READY. Others do things different, but this is what I recommend.

I would say at least 4-5 weeks. And it should be huge by then!!!!

Happy growing and good luck.

Thanks DST! found that post very helplful, and it makes more "botanical" sense than trichome watching. Every strain, and the different pheno's thereof do have vastly different interactions with the external environment. That being said, i completely agree that we can't apply a "one-size-fits-all" approach to harvest time.

It is a a 90/10 sativa/indica (according to The Attitude) so I was expecting a 10-12 flowering time, but the main cola is already 14" in length - thought I might've been ahead of schedule because of it! Was not expecting this size from my 1st grow :)

As I say, you think it's big now, if it's 90% sativa, wait until those calyxes start swelling, I think that cola should double!! Great work on the first grow!

Thanks DST! I really appreciate the feedback from someone who has such experience! Some of my pistils are turning brown, does that mean that my calyxes are going to follow suit? Not impatient, just want to ensure I get both size and THC levels at a maximum! haha. Bit unsure of myself, given that this is my first grow :)

i'd say 3 maybe 4 man b patient and she'll reward you with some good smoke:joint:.

yea. thats a big ass bud for 7 weeks, and it still has a ways to go. the hairs will appear to recede a bit into the buds, but thats really just the buds swelling up, and getting super frosty.

looks great tho man, just keep waiting!

i dont mean to double post and all but yea, this is pretty much the simple truth, each pant is different, and trichomes are a GUIDE not a BIBLE. some like to wait til all trichomes are dark, for a smaller head high and more CBDs and a deeper body high... either way, you got a ways to go

Stigmas or hairs (a pistil is actually the stigma, plus calyx) will continue to die off throughout the growth of the plant. The calyxes will be following suit in time.

I'm going to get a pocket micoscope, and use the two methods in conjunction with each other. That way i'm sure i'll get the timing right (that and the photo's i post here)

Will post more pics in the coming days, we can watch these buds develop together :)

Good...you said you had some issues with overfert in the beginning...that can set flowering back by a bit..depending on how long it took the plant to recover...
So...now you know to watch out for nitrogen...so if it took 3 weeks to get the overfeed settled then it is 3 extra weeks of flower time needed usually...
