First run came out fantastic with 75oz. Should dry out to around 2.5 - 3lbs! Harvest was a few days ago. The chamber and reservoir systems are cleaned and refitted, repaired where needed, everything ready to go.

We will be working with OG Kush and Blue Dream from cuttings taken during 1st run, originally from a dispensary in North OC. They are were all taken > 6 - 8 weeks ago and have been FIMed up, vegging for the duration. All clones have at least 4 main stalks.

Quick breakdown -

600w cool tube in 36"x24"x78" insulated metal supply cabinet system (see sig).
5-day cooler reservoir with 6 plants

Water this time will be 2 parts RO and 1 part tap water (375ppm). This makes 50ppm base water, brought up to 100ppm with cal/mag plus.

Stuff for the sauce:
Sensi Grow and Bloom (NOT PH perfect dammit)
Hygrozyme
Big Bud
Overdrive
Great White
Companion
Botanicare Cal/Mag Plus
Final Phase

We will add other stuff as cash flow allows, including a real CO2 system and a couple of other additives. Very pleased with the results from using most of the above on the 1st run so I may continue to add nutrient products as well.

Comments welcome of course.

VEG DAY 1

IMG_20110302_000927.jpgIMG_20110302_000918.jpgIMG_20110302_000910.jpgIMG_20110302_000959.jpgIMG_20110302_000953.jpgIMG_20110302_001010.jpgView attachment 1470756IMG_20110302_001024.jpg

Here we go. 6 girls at once this time because that's how I roll.

2 Blue Dreams on the left side, the rest are OG Kush. 600w MH conversion in the cool tube is set to 20 hours on, 4 hours off. I am planning to run veg hours until I see significant root growth, then we slam right into flower. This should take under two weeks.

Recipe for the sauce:

224ml each Sensi Grow A & B
70ml Hygrozyme
15ml Companion
.75tsp Great White
30ml Cal/Mag Plus
Water is 14 gallons @ 100ppm, 2 parts RO from the glacier machine to one part LA tap water.

Clones have been on about 800ppm since roots. They veggied in party cups under the T5 in chamber two using sensi grow and cal/mag.

Chamber exhaust is on 24/7. It pulls air through a cabinet used for drying, so it stays on while the drying cab is in use. This will not interfere with CO2 later.

Updates every couple of days or as anything useful happens.

ph 5.8, 0900 ppm, 62f reservoir
68f room temp, 74f in growth chamber

I love that you asked for comments....like anyone here can shut up. ;)

Can't wait to see how this grow turns out. Lots o things that I've wondered about and wanted to try, but it's always better to watch it before you do it on your own.

Thanks man!

Hi everyone. Just please remember, I know very little about what I'm doing. This is all trial and error mixed with advice where I can find it.

So far I've been doing light PH chasing as it moves up. Adjusting once per day with GH PH up. Sauce wants to be at 6.4, and i think today it's down to stable at 6.

I do not think that 100ppm of tapwaterness is enough to buffer as needed. AN support is where that 100ppm number came from. They actually wanted it around 75 to start. Getting this stable at 6 has required 130ml of cal/mag, quite a bit. 200+ ppm worth. Next flush let's try starting with around 200ppm in the water pre-nutes.

Keep in mind that I am not afraid of crazy high ppms. My last grow was up around 2500 during max flower, no problems other than keeping a stable ph. The OGs are said to love high ppm, and the blue dream didn't seem to mind much. Also the OGs are said to love lots of cal/mag, which is why I'm not fearful to raise the starting ppm up over 1200 with it this week.

Starting ppm - I should be starting these around 1300 this week anyway. I was looking at the AN nute calculator and thinking this is week one. Far from it, I should be considering this the 2nd to last week of veg since we've already had these girls cooking for a number of weeks under the T5.

Lastly, my ppm meter is a joke and cannot be trusted. Regardless of conditions, it requires calibration once daily if not more often to acheive any accurate measurement. It's being replaced as soon as there is money to do it. Its's a CWP tri-meter, blue one.

ph 6, 1390 ppm, 67f res
74 room, 79 chamber one

note now quickly the res temp has risen. A week or two ago, when the cab was full of flowering plants, the res temp stayed lower for far longer. Certainly this is because the plant canopy was blocking most of the heat from reaching the res. If I were not a lazy man, I'd mod a space blanket or something like that to fit as a parka for the res. I'm sure that would do the trick.

But I AM lazy, so therefore I will do nothing and instead worry about it if we get up aroud 70. There are more biologicals in this run than the last, so I will be a little more careful about res temp creeping up past that.

Shooting from the hip here, but have to say something good about companion + great white. I added this stuff to the sauce in hopes of promoting faster, better root growth, and it's not disappointing. Roots are growing about the same speed, but they are very visibly "branchier", with smaller little roots shooting off in all directions. Last grow, with just sensi and hygrozyme, root growth was nice but they didn't look anywhere near as branched out from the beginning as these do now.

thumbs up to companion and great white in the res.

Picked up some B-52 because I'm a sucker for completing a collection. Very knowledgable hydro shop guy suggested using hormex @ 1/3 the price to acheive the same B vitamin results. I went with the AN product anyway. My understanding is the hormex is essentially B-1 + auxins. B-52 has no auxins that I know of, so it seems more suited to general stress relief rather than cuttings. Note too, the hormex bottle is alot smaller so it's really about the same price.

I am hoping this will help with, what I really think is the last missing link in the process. The plants definitely get stressed when moving from under the T5 in veg cab to the 600W MH in the main cab. Hoping this will do the trick for them. I have tried to help this by backing off the light last time, didn't really make much difference. They are going to be upset until they have the root system to uptake the necessary fuel for 600W growth. We've got everything we need to get those roots going at turbo speed, and they are, but in the meantime, let's see if this makes the girls feel better about it.

haha yeah it's all about the independent quality assessment from none other than the smoke dog. word!

still adjusting ph daily. drifts up to about 6.3, drop it back down to about 5.7, wash, rinse, repeat.

roots are really kicking ass. the two blue dreams in the tank were not in net pots before entering the chamber, so they aren't showing any roots hanging from the coco yet. Looking good though.

working on an improved way to arrange these plants in the scrog. especially the og, as it tends to spread out to the sides more than grow straight up. I'm interlocking the OGs by routing their branches into the adjacent OG plants. Like X's interlocking together. Probably a horrible way to explain this, but I'm too lazy to make a crappy drawing, so hopefully it makes some kind of sense. I am certain this will help acheive a smoother screen fill.

also note, i'm finding seeds in this OG from the last cycle. No idea what fertilized these girls, zero clue. The OGs are officially on "something aint right" notice. I am considering pulling them and doing a full blue dream grow this time. undecided so far, but if I make this change, it will be made in the next 24 hours.

Decent set-up phenob,
Got a question tho, arent you worried about the different requirements of each strain while running a single res?
I was, but this is the 2nd cycle now with these two strains in one tank. It worked out fine last time. If anything, this time, I may leave one a little longer than the other, but that's about it.
Especially since OG is a really high ppm sort of girl. I was afraid the BD wouldn't hang, but no problems at all.

Decided to pull the OGs until I find a cutting that is more what I'm after. Mystery seeds aside, this looks alot like fire OG or diablo or one of those that really has a shitload of striking red hairs. It's great smoke, puffing on it now, but it's not what I am looking for.

So OGs back into the small veg cab, replaced with 4 blue dreams. I will probably bring planned PPM down some. Or maybe not. we'll see!

Are you a legal medical grower? I haven't payed to much attention, but as long as your numbers are already legal I can give you some great strains that can play nice with your Blue Dream. My SFV OG is a F3 classic from the breeder and she is a pleasure to grow! Outrageously frosty, no popcorn nugs, incredibly dense. She likes a low PPM to the very end, and is very strong. Easy as pie to clone! Insect resistant, and tough to kill, she is the cream of my crop, a true champion, and I'm always happy to share. I also have a beautiful purple Old School Kush, it was from seed, and the purple was just the luck of the draw. I have a green OSK too, but I haven't gotten a chance to flower either. I also have a clone of this Strawberry Cough that turned out to be a massive producer, a rarity indeed. I have some seeds I absolutely love, I have the best producing and smelling Grape Kush seeds, I also have some amazing White Berry seeds, both breed with parents from Paradise Seeds, I believe. Grape Kush produces a lot, smells like artificial grape, but is light sensitive, it also likes a low PPM diet. The White Berry does VERY well with a low PPM diet, but honestly doesn't give a shit one way or the other. The White Berry lacks a little in flavor (at least the one I've been cloning from seed, the mom isn't around anymore, flowered her and decided to make a new one from seed) but I do know it is a outrageous frost producer. Pretty average yields, does best as a small, untrained plant.

I do not sell anything, but I do need compensation for gasoline, and materials. Which is a very reasonable 5 bucks, unless you live far as hell away from me or my work. Then it might be 10 bucks. haha. I also except trades for other exceptional strains, because I do not keep bad genetics in my line up. I might just be down to trade genetics, if you are close enough I would gladly give you a free one as a kind gesture.

btw, got a dry weight yet? I'm dying to see. I have to move soon and I don't know if my landlord will be down with growing like my current one is. I may start a copy cat grow of yours. I need to try checking your posts out when I'm not shitfaced though!

I am completely legal. Just growing for my own personal kicks so I'm well within all allowable limits. I have zero need to mass produce. The only people who will ever get ahold of my smoke are the very few personal friends that are also legal and could use a helping hand. Other than that, we're talkin bout practice. All about improving my skills and knowledge and maybe coming up with something interesting to pass on to all you other mutants.

Dry weight on last cycle came out to a MEASLEY 10.5oz. Talk about shrinkage! The buds are nice tasting and smelling, even look great. Friends say it's all top shelf, but I'm a snob, and I'm not growing this with anything but the finest of the fine in mind. The first run buds simply don't have the density I'm looking for. Especially the OG. It's one of those strains of popcorn nugs. Nice, but again, not what I'm after. The red hairs on it also are a dead giveaway that it's not the strain I had in mind. It looks far too much like fire OG or something like that. I'm sure I could improve the desity on the 2nd run, as I've improved my knowledge and will be adding CO2 before flowering, but like you, I'd really like to be working with excellent genetics from the start.

The blue dream clones have been great though. Very healthy, super easy to clone, and the flavor, look, smell, etc is dead on. Also can also tolerate the sort of extreme PPM that I inflicted upon that OG, with a smile. The only downside is that it wants to grow tall, and that isn't happening in my grow chamber. Have to scrog it carefully and really watch light placement.

Yield is about what I expected from the first run. We will improve this time for sure. I am certain that this setup can pull well over a pound if flown correctly. Keep in mind, that was the first time I'd ever tried hydroponics. This is my 2nd, so lots of room for improvement.

This is a very, very solid setup as far as the machinery. I am so very glad that I didn't let anyone talk me out of building it. Many tried. Phenob's Folly, The Infernal Device.. there have been a few nicknames. My only problem is that it is located in a room with no real ventilation, so it can get hot if I don't micromanage the room temp. AC the room or the cab with a small portable air conditioner and that's that. Hell even a simple vent on the roof would probably do the trick but there is currently none. Chamber temp = room temp + about 7. If room temp is under control, then so is the chamber temp. I will be adding this within the next few weeks before it starts getting really hot here. Everything else is solid. If you duplicate the setup let me know and I'll be glad to give a few pointers of what I would do differently this time. Matter of fact, I may be making a 2nd grow chamber soon so I'll really dig into possible improvements.

Let's definitely talk. I'll shoot you a PM a little later today. Your SFV OG sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.

have to say though, after my ripping of the OG strain here .. came out and vaped a bowl of the dreggiest of the harvested OG dregs. Fuckin stoned! This OG is deceptively powerful.

Used ice in the res for the first time this afternoon with res approaching 70f. Probably would have been fine but, since no real roots in the drink quite yet, why not? Being the crude bastard that I am, I tossed in the last 20% of a bag of ice. Dropped temp by about 4 degrees, just right. Was time for a slight top off anyway.

Also something I'm doing this time that I didn't last .. I am using skewers with the pointed end stuck into the netpot coco and the other end anchored in one of the scrog screen grid spaces. This gives a solid post that can be used to turn branches horizontally. Works great, and you can acheive some really cool bansaiesque shapes to the branches. Makes it very easy to shape an S, for instance. It is making it very easy to integrate the 4 slightly yougner plants with the 2 already filling the screen, without having to use any fishing line style LST so far. Pics if this doesn't make sense and anyone cares.

ph has also stabilized completely. zero change today at 5.9. yesterday only required 7ml phdown whereas days previous were taking about 13ml. Slight adjustment to 5.8 should hold overnight. Probably has a lot to do with no substantial root activity in the sauce yet. or maybe just takes 10 days to stabilize with my new army of beneficials.

ph 5.8, 1480 ppm, 65.8f res
chamber too damn hot at 79 - 83f. AC plz k thx.
room humid 40%

1480ppm? Sounds ridiculously strong, I would cut it back to 600ppm. Less is more in hydroponic gardening. Please post pictures of this skewer technique, I can't wrap my smoked out brain around it. And ferrel good about 10.5 oz on your first hydro grow with one lamp. Pretty impressive, what are your screen dimensions?

haha told you my ppm would raise comments! These girls have no problem with the hard sauce else I'd be lower. They've been drinking 800ppm+ since roots. Last run took them up to 2500 during peak flowering. I won't go nearly that high this time, looking to peak around 1800-1900 or so during flowering, if that. If the OGs were still in there I'd go balls out again.

Always watching for signs of problems though, as I know I'm in potentially dangerous territory.

pics of the skewers asap.

lets say i want to take that branch there at 2 o clock and move it up toward noon. insert skewer at an angle from the top, scootch the branch in to place with it, then poke the skewer down into the coco.

IMG_20110310_194309.jpgIMG_20110310_194345.jpg

the branch will want to snap back to 3, but the stick is now there to block it. essentially, we are just adding bits of vertical grid where necessary. dont know wtf i didnt think of this last time. so simple.

once that branch grows and sticks into place, usually no more than a day or three, you could apply a 2nd skewer to steer the branch in another direction. hell, you could even stick thumbtacks or something into the sticks to adjust branches vertically.

ph still rock solid. good roots now on the two older plants. others look great. so much better than this time last cycle. vigorous growth, couple of inches a day even on the plants that aren't roots in the drink yet.

topped off with a gallon of tap, cooled in the freezer to around 40f. will adjust ph a little bit tomorrow if needed. so far, adding back with cool water is holding res temp just right despite it being about as hot as it gets in the chamber.

ph 5.9, 1430 ppm, 67f res
room 71, chamber 78f.
room humid 45%

still spending way too much time in the 80s, even lights off. cooler weather on the way will help.

honorable mention to the blue dream with fan leaves the size of my hand. beautiful man.
