Yeah, I read it. Basically its the heat sink and air flow that are most important, and the thermal paste is really the smallest piece of the equation. After reading this though, I really can no longer justify the premium cost of AS5.
 
again im not sure their pricing is accurate for our scale. looks like both the arctic MX4 and the dow are about $2-$3/g in small quantities. considering a gram usually does 10 chips i dont see anybody breaking the bank on TIM

Yeah, I get ya - but then consider that AS is probably twice the weight per ml, 3.5 gm of DC would go a lot farther than 3.5 gm of AS. Next time I purchase some I will get the DC and compare the syringe sizes.
 
Selfmade heatsink, ~5250cm², removes up to 50heatwatts passively.jpg BTW,
These boards needs no thermal grease for the same reason QB's don't need it.
The heat is spreaded over a large area, so simple screw it to your heatsink and you're good to go!

If you still want to use it,
you could use some aluminum c-channels and cheap ebay thermal glue(<1w/m-k) and glue them evenly spaced to the backside of the board to increase available cooling area.
The 2mm thickness of the board seems durable enough and the glued "fin's" will increase the torsional stiffness as well.
I've already made a few heatsinks using 2mm thick alu sheet and c-channels and they work good.
A lot cheaper than matching heatsinks..?

thats a clever idea for a heatsink /holder

and yes the 2mm can support a fair bit of weight on its own

up here even small diameter channel aluminum is not cheap and make the factory made sinks i requested look afordable

i have non ip 65 and ip 65 samples being made with ratchet hanger and driver mounting hardware.

The ones under the 6 panels above are growing good..they seem happy

Next idea is put 4 panels inside a hydrofarm Raptor hood [that has been used for my hps grow]

and power at 150w each ...if i can replace 1000w this way the leds will pay for themselves in 7 months in hydro savings

alone..never mind the cost and pain of changing hps bulbs added to that

i will be testing the dc current on a flip panel too..since my hps were on one
the wire gauge is thick.. the drop seemed to be minor.
.i could enjoy only paying for one driver every two lights..

i took some hydro-galaxy par meter readings

at 18" and 12" with the four 6" x 22" panels /two per 300w driver in series

so 600w over 3 x 4ft area..

18" = 425-525
and
12"= 525-785

i think 14" had the best average numbers4 panel.jpg

next is grow something under them..

didn't take any heat readings..but they were not bad when i shut them off

there is no charted grid..the high numbers are under the panels..
in between them it is fairly even ..[the lower numbers]and on the edges it falls off
ppfd = i dunno... but around 12 sq ft

these are various sativas that were under two 6 x22 panels@120w ea..
and now under one two panel rig @320

these done so i could at least see how the panels do..

...fishing is the number one thing right now

i have heatsinks on the way[or so i hear]

the temps with the fans are 40c -50c

this a 48 x48" area

can i ask who made your boards im looking to do the same and have some made i have found a few on alibaba with some good quotes im looking at making 300x 300 boards with a prity dense amount of these leds on
 
hey dude..i have no real idea if i have exactly what they promised

they look good , they are bright ,they have pretty good meter results..things are growing

but i am no light guru expert and the onlyway i can know if they are any goodis to grow with them

so to be honest

even if i wanted to give you a link..i do not want to be steering you in the wrong direction

how about you get yours done wth the homework you have done just like me..and we can both see whats up

i went and checked temperatures on the 6 x 22 panels being run at 100w each..with fan blowing by them they were
from 42c-mid 30's c..mostly all in the 30's
i stuck a hydrogalaxy meter under them..and at around a foot they were in the high 600's with even coverage all over
i put some more plants under them and will lower it next time i am there and see if the even coverage continues..

i brought the 4 panel one there and willhook it up to see what the same wattage with 4 and 6 panels looks like on the meter

Do you need to provide them with a shematic or just the size of board # of led & what led you want to use?

you can have them made compleatly they will do the gerber pcb file for you and put the leds on etc at a cost the more boards you have done the cheeper it gets at they charge you a setup charge etc im looking into haviing my boards made in chinna then have the leds put on in the uk but i suspect it might be better to have 1 company do the lot . i also dont think theres much point not using a heat sink you can run these leds realy well then
 
Might be a bit over kill as the theroy is about light spred etc however as the leds are so cheep you could put alot more on a pcb and still get a good heat distribution
there like $0.055 an led after all
