400W Parabolic Reflector Or Square Hood - Advice Please

Hi guys.

I'm just putting an indoor growroom together and I have been thinking about changing to a parabolic light reflector to make best use of the space I have.

I found a brief review of the Secret Jardin reflector, video below. If anyone is using one or has used one it would be great to hear from you.

Likewise, what other reflectors are people running?

Thanks for reading :blsmoke:

With my experience running the parabolic hood. Id say a 1000w light is best suited for this style hood unless using as a drop in for upper, side-lighting.
I used to use a 600 for phase 2 of veg on a six plants for 1 months.
Anything under a Thouie in that using it directly above the plants will not be enough par for optimal flowering Imo.
The bulb has approx a 15• spot under the tip that throws less light.
The majority is coming from the sides of the bulb.
Although that Secret Jardin is a better hood then i have & the #'s were pretty impressive. Especially with the shiny walls bouncing it back like a tent would.
On that note, a 600w in todays good parabolic hood looks like it would do the job with more even coverage then a sqaure hood.
Have you ever considered quality LEDs?
Todays technology is allowing for twice as much light per watt used then a SE , HPS.

Unfortunately I can't do 1000W, down to size and cost. Where I live, electricity is very expensive and I am working with a 900mm x 900mm x 1850mm space so heat would become an issue.

I have considered jumping straight into a 600W set up as it's the best bang for buck but being realistic will look to upgrade a little further down the road. At the moment I would like to get things up and running.

I have found a few Sun System Luxor 8" shades for sale, they look lovely but very commercial. I would love to see what one would do in the space I have. Searching on Google revealed a Sun King parabolic reflector in hammertoe silver as apposed to their old white design. That looks quite nice, I just can't find any reviews.

I'm a bit old school with my growing, I like the MH for veg and HPS for flower then depending on the strain a finishing bulb would be used.

I'm still unconvinced about the LED route, I haven't seen anything so far that makes me want to jump ship especially for the cost involved.

Thanks very much for the reply.

Double ended gavitas are the way to go in my opinion. iv tried several types of led and CMH but nothing beats the double ended bulb.
Iv grown great weed with both the led ,CMH or old school bulbs but nothing beats the double ended bulbs.

Don't know much about parabolic reflectors but the distribution of light when running HID lamps is not emphasized enough imo. A lot of peeps throw down a chunk of change on a 600w ballast and then chince out on a shitty cool tube and wonder why they have hot spots. A large reflector will spread light wider for more coverage and larger footprint than would be possible other wise.
The thing about parabolic type reflectors is that they do not also allow you to duct an inline fan without filtration to pull off the heat and stink.
