Wow ok. I didn't realize that was algae. The fertilizer is the same color and it didn't start getting that color until I started usin the fertilizer.

I got some black tape so that is my project for tonight.

yeah that's definitely some mold, algae, fungus, or somethin growin on those cubes.
You should be able to fix em up though, the plants are lookin real healthy. Keep it up!
The base of the stalks always look kinda stretched or whatever because, well, it is.
The stalk is growing constantly and will start hardening looking like a tree if grown long enough.

Thanks for the tips. A trip to lowes is in order I guess.

Do plants generally double during the flowering stage? Just wondering when to start flowering.

double for sure sometimes depending on strain and veg time they even triple. In your case I'd top both your plants and start traing the side branches out to get an even canopy for the all the buds to get equal amount of light. I also reccomend lollipopping or cutting the lower 1/3 of the smaller branches of your main branches off. These will be nothing but popcorn buds and lollipopping creates huge colas if done in the first 2-3 weeks of flowering. You can make lil pin holes on the corner of your lid and tie fishing string loops for anchor and then use yarn to tie the branches down and just knot the yarn in your fishing line anchors and your good. If your not gonna top I'd say veg for atleast 4 weeks and then flip.

Thanks for the tip. Why do you suggest topping as opposed to just letting these plants grow out naturally? Is it guaranteed to give a higher yield? I ask because frankly, I have no idea. I'm thinking I want to take a minimalist approach so I don't screw anything up. So far I just check ph and ppm every other day. Add more water when necessary. This is pretty much all I've done for these plants so far.

I am interested in pruning for higher potency/yield. Since I have never seen a live marijuana plant I have no idea where the buds are and aren't going to form. Are there any good marijuana pruning guides? Is it even necessary?

Checking in with pics taken tonight. Any feedback is appreciated.

I think I've had them backwards the whole time. I read somewhere that the Diesel has yellow tint to the leaves because of it's equatorial lineage. It said the yellow leaves keep it from getting burned by the sun. The one on the left has light yellow tint on the leaves, the one on the right is a deep green. Growth looks sativa-like compared to the one on the right as well.

Please give me tips on how to prune these, or even if i should. I read that the top is the most potent place, so I won't cut it off.

Are there any other variables involved in choosing when to flower besides height?

What can I do to increase potency? I know it's not necessary now but I'm just thinking ahead.

You have 2 seeds in that net pot, not 1 like you think. Remove one of them so they dont choke each other out...Move your 400 mh at least 12" from the tops at this seedling stage, then bring it closer (up to 5-6" after they get growing, 5-6"). Your humidity needs to be about 60% during veg, 30% humidity and they will dry up. You can mist them with plain water often and that should help. For new sprouts, you don't need nutes. Normally you add 1/4 strenght nutes after the first full leaf set, not counting the seed leaves (the first 2 single leaves). The seeds have enuff energy to grow and the ppm shouldn't be over 300 MAX after you add the first 1/4 strength nutes. Add additional 1/4 nutes 2-3 days apart until you get to 800 or so. 1200 ppm is for plants is full veg. and I have had full grows at no more than 1000 ppm. These are weeds and less is always more. Your pH should be between 5.5 & 6.5 with 5.8 being optimal. Dont chase it as it will wander depending on it's eating habits and adjust it when it gets out of that range...The pc fan should go. Get a 6" fan to point at the res to keep it cooler and a 12" oscillating to point betweer the light and the tops of the plants....If you'll read the hydro threads, you'll gain a wealth of knowledge. Keep a journal so you'll know what you did wrong and right.... hope this helps...HGH

Dont stress tham. I'd let them go to at least 12" but make sure you have alternating nodes before you flower. It shows they are mature. You want to flower a woman(mature plant) not a little girl. Seeds are the most important factor in potancy than almost anything else for that matter. After that, knowing when to chop them and how to cure them makes a BIG difference. All the info is on this site of you'll take the time to find and read it....luck HGH

I personally do it for yeild and for tight dense buds. Not one big tight cola and the rest lil danky side branch nugs. Every growth tip is going to turn into a bud site you will see. If you can maintain an even canopy and get your buds or all your growth tips equal amount of light you get alot denser nugs in the end. Its tried and proved thats all I'm saying.....

Another picture update, more questions. First, these bad mamas are sucking up about 4.5 gallons every 3 days. I refilled the water twice this week. I keep forgetting to take pics of the roots, but they are pretty awesome. Very healthy looking. I've also raised the light twice now. Since I've never done this before I am just wondering if anyone can help me here. I'm debating when to start flowering. I want the max yield possible. About how tall should they be before I switch to 12/12?

This is how tall they are today. I know they look like a damned mess. I had just changed the water.

I found this bug on one of the plants. Is it a predator or should I break out the shoe on these buggers? I saw two of them cruising around on the branches.

This is the one on the left, which I believe is the Diesel. It is a little unhealthy as you can see. There's some browning around the edges of certain leaves as shown. Also, if you look at the first pic below you can see on top and directly in the middle there are branches that are just weak looking and the leaves are not facing towards the light. Why are they doing that? Any advice is appreciated.

Another pic of the lazy branches on the Diesel.SAM_0374.jpg

Compare that to the White Rhino, which is looking just perfectly awesome.

I've decided to start flowering. I started reading some other posts and basically the plants can grow 2-3 times their current size if I start flowering now. Well at 16 inches the minimum would be fine with me. I've changed the light to hps, beginning sunset at 6am, and will be starting sunrise at 6pm.

So it's been a week since hitting the switch to flowering. The diesel that was 16 inches is now 24 inches (50% growth in one week?). It may be attributed to the fact that I was running lights 24 hours during veg so the plants didn't have time to rest. Not sure but everything is going well.

As this is my first time ever seeing a live budding mj plant, I wasn't sure where exactly the buds would grow from. But now I'm seeing it. There are several branches that end with what looks like a bloom. And they're all reaching up for the light. The plants don't seem to need much training. I am just moving te branches by hand and not tying. The leaves are getting plenty of light.

PH is at 6.0, tds is at 1300ppm, humidity is high at 50%. I am tring to get it down but not really sure how. Using an exhaust fan hasn't helped.

I will post pics of the plants soon.
