Right, i haven't a clue how my plants are doing, but this post isn't about them.

Whipped up the following on a 3D modeling app on my ipad, so its pretty basic and rough, wasn't too sure how to render each face for more realistic colours but i'm sure i'll get my idea across to anyone reading this.

The idea here is to have the pots raised up off the floor and hanging by their lips (top edge). The contraption the pots will be hanging off will be on rollers, the type you get on office desks and some drawers to allow them to slide out and back in, so i will be able to quickly and easily slide both plants out of the cupboard in one quick and easy pull, no lifting. The plants wont be able to move back and forth due to the "rails" of wood the lips of the pot will be sitting on, but they will be able to move left and right along the rails if a little space needs to be created incase one plant decides it needs more room than the other. This weekend i will transplant both plants into 11litre square pots and probably switch to flowering on sunday. Such a design does mean i will lose some height, but that's not something i'm too worried about with this grow, as long as they dont grow another foot this week or anything.

The pots will be high enough to allow me to place some sort of bucket or bowl underneath them once pulled out to catch run off when flushing. This will mean i won't have to untie anything (training), remove any drippers, or carry the plants round my house to my bathroom.

As this shall all be made up of wood, if any training sticks are needed to hold up branches or keep buds separated or anything like that, holes can be drilled in the the sliding surface the pots will be sitting on in which these sticks can go into. Means i dont have to disturb the soil/roots... if you get me.

Lastly if one pot needs to be raised like it is at the moment, wooden blocks can be added between the lips of the pot and the rails, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Well the original autoflower - lowryder and lowryder 2 will finish in 60 days I reckon, but can't say the same for the easyryder lol. My lowryder2 started popping pistils after the 2nd node! so about 7 days of veg, the easy is still vegging at 39 days haha.

Yeh pukka had his grow dialled in first time round, not sure how but he literally grows the perfect plant! He does give them a really thorough feeding schedule and just has some green thumbs man, gonna smash it this round though, better than the last I reckon.
That easyriders lookin pretty hench! I see what you mean about its growth, wonder how big she'll get before u start seein some pistils. When i think of auto's i think of plants like your easyrider 2. I really wouldn't mind filling my cupboard with plants that size, all different strains, have like 10-12 in there in a SCROG, even if i only got like 7-14g's of each i'd rate having 12 different strains to sample. I hate how i can only try 1 thing at a time. Maybe thats what i'll do next time, grow loads of small plants instead of 2 big ones. I really want to get an accurate feeding schedule for each strain i grow, but will need more than 1 crack at each to really get it on point. I reckon some people were just meant to grow, others not, i sort of see it as a talent, whilst every1 has the potential to grow, some are just better than others for whatever reason, whether its patience, care, attention to detail or whatever. However i also believe there are some very "talented" growers out there that just dont know it yet because they've never tried. Obviously a lot of growing comes down to experience, but i wouldn't say 100%, Pukka being a good example. Doesn't have years of experience but can still grow some impressive stuff.

Well its either big buddha or barneys farm, each will grow slightly differently. I cant tell u how long to flower for because ive never grow this strain, but from the research ive done it seems everyone says to go 9 weeks. The real time to harvest though depends on the colour of the trichomes. There's no set time anyway, depends on a lot of variables, you need to read ur plants! Im gona invest in a x400 USB microscope before deciding when to harvest, only like £40, paid more for my seeds! Let me know how this go for you cos you're ahead of me.

without a doubt a SOG hydro setup would be the way to go to get the best yield but then you run the plant risk count so it's all about risk/reward. Ive realised the easyryder isnt gonna autoflower, my only guess is they gave me the wrong seed but it's a real vigorous grower so I'm not too bothered haha. Day 42 for the beast at the back

That is true. Birds eye shots of plants in veg are the ones, when u putting the beast into flower then? 42 Days, makes her the same age as my 2.

  • Came and checked on the plants today to find fan leaves on the bottom of the sour diesel yellowing, with a few leaves here and there with yellow edges. The blue cheese on the other hand looked fine, nice healthy green leaves. Anyway decided the best thing to do was to transplant both plants and give them a thorough flush. But before i could do this i needed to build the pull out tray thing.

  • Originally was going to go for 11L pots but after having looked at them they seemed the same size as the pots i had before, just square, and the ones one size up were quite a lot larger so i went with those. Figured i might as well go up in size if i'm gona transplant them. They're 12" x 12" x 12". Turns out they were the perfect size for my plans.

  • When flushing i poured approximately 35-40L through each pot, and by the next day they were already looking much better. Picture of bucket is of run-off.

  • Braches were re-tied and pulled further down to keep the plants heights at a minimum and to allow secondary branches more light. Again all leaves were tucked down to give all bud-sites maximum light.

  • Both plants were slightly pruned, wanted to get all possible stress out the way in 1 go.

  • 2 days after the transplant a lot of growth could be seen, so again they were re-tied and pulled further down slightly. One branch on the sour D ripped very slightly right at the node where the branch joins the stalk, however it was very small, the plant will recover. Another piece of string was added for support while the plant mends the tear. Both this rip and the points where i'd tried super-cropping were wrapped in PTFE tape to avoid anything getting into these exposed areas. The super-cropped branches still haven't fixed themselves and have slits in them where the outside of the branch split. However they're still growing well so i guess it hasn't done too much harm whatever i did.

  • A lot of secondary branching has emerged and grown up towards the light. These bud sites are about 3" below all the top on the primary branches. All tops are within 3-4 inches of each other.

Day 38:

Day 39:

  • Would love to have kept them in veg for a week longer but serious space concerns made me decide to stick them into flower today. Growth had picked up again after the transplant and they were showing no signs of stress so thought it was a good time anyway.

  • New HPS bulb was fitted, and the glass pane on the reflector was cleaned (was fiiiilthy). Probably should have cleaned if after last grow.

  • Due to the size of the pots i think i'm only going to have to water once a week. Therefore one week i'll feed with nutrients and the next will be plain water. I'll do this throughout flowering until the final flush.

  • Temps with the HPS are sitting at 27.7C

Nice mate, you're gonna fill up that cab real nice. I wonder why your temp is so high even with an aircooled hood? mines sits at around 21-22C and same setup pretty much. Didnt think it was that much warmer down south lol.

Yeh probably because my cupboard is fully insulated on all sides, only reason i can think of. Somehow a decent amount of heat makes it through the glass pane, surprising with the inline blowing over the bulb. As long as it stays around 27C its all gd

Ive got a 5" inline blowing air over the bulb, and ive got a RVK pulling air out the reflector and exhausting it away. So it goes inline --->Bulb ----> RVK ----> Chimney, all air flow going left to right.

damn, you would think that would do the trick. It's worth noting that MH do run hotter than HPS, or have you got the HPS in now? My setup goes filter -> bulb -> inline pulling air out the tent and that does the trick for cooling it. What are the ambient temps in the room with the cab?

Yeh well it does the job, 27C is exactly where i want it. Lights off temp sits at around 20C. And the room temp is about 20C as well. I reckon if i stuck the rvk right next to the reflector it would bring the temp down slightly, but theres no room in the cupboard. The HPS is in, day 2 of flowering.

Roots have started growing out the bottom on the pots, about a cm long so far. Dont think transplanting again is an option. Want to somehow cover them with soil so they're no being exposed to light. The new pots im using have 16 drainage holes, so im thinking of stacking a couple ontop of one another and instead of cutting off the bottom of the current pot, just letting the roots grow through the holes into the pot below. Hopefully this'll restrict growth, without stopping it all together, what say u? Somehow my last grow was achieved in pots nearly half the size of the ones im using at the moment.

The roots will die off if they stay out in the air too often anyway but I would just half fill another pot with soil and stick it on top of that, think its called double potting. You could also go as far as to chop the bottom of your pot off so they can utilize the extra soil.

Are you using a root stimulant like rhizotonic this time? if not I'm not sure why they're so much more vigorous than the hazes, just different traits I guess. You gotta invest in some airpots next round mate, they are the sheeeeet!

lilindian

Yeh ive heard good things about them. But what makes the roots reaching the air in those pots any different to how mine are now reaching air? Surely mine will just get "pruned" like they do in air pots

WOWgrow

Well-Known Member
The roots in your pots that are getting pruned are only the ones at the bottom, and that will only be a few of the roots because there's not many holes. The roots above them will begin to circle the pot. On an airpot, as soon as they reach the sides/ bottom it will be pruned and cause another shoot to be produced, giving you a much stronger root system. Sound like a salesman for them dont I haha, im not honest, just a very satisfied customer. You get better airflow to the roots as well in airpots.

Sounds like the way to go really, u sold it pretty well. Can u make ur own pots? Like to a specific size and shape.
