Hello everybody,

I've decided my grow cab will be 6ftHx3ftWx1.5ftD....im trying to decide whether to go with a 250w HPS cool tube or 300w LED....I like the 250w for it's lumen output...but LEDs do give a perfect spectrum but are fairly weak in lumen output with 11,000....anybody can give any advice???greatly appriciated

HPS all the way, Your yields will piss all over the LED if you can control the heat, With a cooltube this shouldnt be a problem.

I keep waiting for real research on growing with LEDS and I can't find any recent fact based info. I know they are using brighter leds I think 5 watt now. I would wait a year or two.

Peace

Thing is I'll be grwoing in an apartment so energy usage might stand out easier...so that's another reason I was looking @ LEDS...and also like you said the heat issue....what about a 400w Ceramic Metal Halide???

A watt is a watt no matter where its being used, 300W LED VS 250W hps = LED using more electric and giving less yield/less quality buds.

You might want to stick to indica or sativa as they grow to different heights and growing them together makes light adjustment difficult at best. You will have plants of two very different heights.

300 watts burnning for 12hrs
is = too
300 watts burnning for 12hrs

it doesn't matter if it an led or my mother inlaw's mouth running
if it pluged in to your line and your burnning 300 watts of it
its going to cost you the same regardless
hps
led
these nuts
a cpu
space heater
tv's
deep freezer
it's all the same

ok but which light is better for my grow is the question at hand the 250w HPS or 300 LED...which would be more beneficial for my grow with my circumstances...im looking to grow with soil

the 250 hps by far.

and as far as power usage, a 250 watter going 12/12 run you about 20 bucks a month, so no one will notice. if you are that worried about it, just be more energy efficient. Turn your themostat down 2 degrees in the winter and up 2 in the summer, and don't ever leave a light on in a room that you are not currently in and you got your 20 bucks back lol.

8 plants is alot for a 250 watter. are you doing a sog/scrog by chance? if not, better keep them small or they will just be competing for light their entire lives and never amount to much.

I personally would only put 2-3 under a 250. you would get more out of 2 plants that are getting sufficient light than you would 8 lights that are starved for light.

Ok so in order for me to grow 8 you think I would need to upgrade to a 400w HPS with cooltube?

In terms of lumens... about 3,000/sq ft. minimum with the sun putting out 10,000.. perhaps you could use two 250w and space them evenly that way your plants are happy with the light right where they are... I'm at a similar bridge where I cant decide on one 600w or four 150w for better coverage.. the LED wont give you the light coverage so HPS

OK I'll be growing in a cab so I'll probably go with a 400w HPS with cooltube

Thanks bro with that being said I think I might go with the 400w air cooled...this grow will B in an apartment so hopefully it won't be too suspecious...

250wHPS or 300w LED? definitely the LED. 1. you can control heat very easily 2. a 300w LED is equivalent to a 1000wHPS.
they arn't really a comparison for each other because one can grow 3-4 plants and the other can grow around 16 plants
also the price difference is pretty big $220 for a 250w and around a $1000 for a 300w LED. hope this helps in decision making. i would definitely go for a 400w and then when you get the funds stick a couple 250w on each side and you'll be golden for 10-12 decent plants. happy growing!
