250w Hps Closet Grow from Start to Finish

Well here goes, this is my 1st grow , decided to do 250w Hps from beginning to end. Journal is starting late as this is day 18 from sprouting. This is all random seedbags gathered from several friends, supposably 2 or 3 out of the 9 plants are some good. First grow didnt want to spend too much money so decided to just get hps for now to do the job and random seeds, so if they die fuck it.

Closet is 7'W x 2'D x 7'H, 2 sliding doors, only using half the closet tho, carpeted floor thru some shelf boards down

Started about Feb 12
germinated in wet paper under bowl (15 out of 30 seeds), then into grodan rockwool cubes, 3rd day when half of them were about an inch, cat got to them pulled half of them right out the rockwool, chewed some leaves, destroyed a few tops and roots. Oh yeah the cat caught it hard lmao at 3am!!!:fire:9 out of the 15 recovered.

Round 7th day had the 250w hps light around 12 inches, burnt the leaves, heat got up to the mid 90s. Immediately did research thru in my 20 inch fan, raised light to 17" above highest leaf, put bowls of water everywhere to raise humdity

Around 18th day now- Today my temps are 83 with my closet door open, fan running with light 18/6, humidity 37%, ph 6-6.5 guess with cheap drop tester, watered 2 days ago with 1/4 dose of botanicare Pro Blend Grow ,2 liter of water with one teaspoon of nutes fed all 9 plants, didnt get no water runoff. Soil is Roots Organics by Aurora mixed with perlite

Last night, lights off temp:68 , humdity 65%. hung some wet shirts, and socks just touching water in bowl , have a pot of water with shirt hanging above light, heavy, not falling now where

4 plants in 2 gallon pots, other 5 in dixie cups, random grow sizes, 2 havent made no progress but they are alive, one of the plants are 4 inches tall, 9 wide, have paper between soil and leaves to reduce the chance of mold. Its cool all the plants look different some tall/short, leggy/bushy, thin/fat leaves and dark/light/ or burnt leaves

would appreciate some pointers for the newbie, my plants have gone thru several issues and would like to head in the right direction. said a lot I think, kno I probably missed somethings, just wanted to be detailed n brief. Help me out guys:lol:

couple of them look a little bit overwatered and you should change the light spectrum to the 5000K figure and those plants should be perking up pretty quickly. Did you take a trip to wally world like I had suggested?

UPDATE Around Day 23 or so....I dont have an exact start date ( Feb 12ish) some plants started a few day after. Well here it is I feel as my plants are too small for day 23

Plants in black 2 gallon pots are all between 6- 8inches tall, Really Really nice thick stems, Fans are fuckin GREAT!! I swapped the droopy plant with the paper under the leaves to the top right next to the bowl of water with socks hanging out (there clean), since the plant that was there was lookin nice, wanted to test a better spot closer to humidity, fan and light. But no luck still

I started LST to the plant in the top left, since it is my tallest plant. Yea I kno ghetto with rock, headphones and the garbage bag ties. Just bent it over about an hour ago, will bend it more every few hours, I dont want to over due it, will do the same to the rest of the plants as they grow another inch or 2

I only water my plants in the black pots about 1/2 a dixie cup of water with half dosage of Botanicare Pro Blend Veg. How much do you guys recommend I water?????????

Also I raised my light to 19 inch away from the highest plant top, keeping the heat usually around 75-81, window cracked for cold and fresh air in the room

When should I repot the plants in the dixie cup?? was thinking about maybe leaving them in there to see how big they can grow etc . what do u guys think about this idea

When should I go into flower??? I was thinking another 2 weeks. They should all be about 8- 14 inches by then

CLoset has a light smell, mmmmmm yummyy:mrgreen:

Also I odered ak-48 and snow white from Nirvana a few days ago ( feminized), I wil be gettin some flurescent tubes soon to start those and clones that I will be taking from the ones growing now

Hey man nice grow. I have a similar setup to 250w HPS and Using the Botanicare Pro Blend line check it out in my Sig. The way I water is I fill up a gallon of water with the correct amount of nutes and water each plant a little at a time until water starts leaking out of the bottom. Hope this helps!

But do you allow them to completely dry out before watering again? I say the dixie cups are way too small to be watering with. I water all my ladies using a 2 gallon watering can and mix my nutes in a 10 gallon ratio. Each plant gets about 2 gallons of water or until the water leaks out to the bottom. I then leave them until the soil pulls itself away from the walls of the pot before watering again, remember the roots need oxygen too so allowing them to dry will let them get the whole pot used. +Rep for the reply about your watering technique. I hope this helps :D

That's good then if you allow the soil to completely dry out. Just trying to help no intentions of disrespect intended :bigjoint:

Just thought I'd throw out two things to research (maybe someone with more experience can chime in?).

19" sounds a bit high for your lights. My only experience is with a 150w... but I have that 150w about 3-4" above my plants and haven't burned or stressed them - is the heat from a 250 at least three times as much? Second thing was if you check the pH of your run-off when watering? Mine drooped a bit (and curled a bit) before I got the pH adjusted properly. Take a look at my grow pictures when they are the same size - they look almost exactly the same.

Again, I'm not an expert - just hoping to help. Also wanted to add, that is one cool looking snake man.

You are mostly right and here is a chart that is very helpful. I can't take credit for putting it on RIU but here it is.

Can you guess what 5 out of the 9 were transplanted out of the dixie cups lol, major growth difference, on that last pic

Update as of today 3/23, a week into flower, already threw out 1 male out of the 9.

I have confirmed 2 females

bilieve I have 4 males, started showing in the last 3 days

2 unknown. In a few days will probably only have 4 females, its getting crowded.

How long can I wait before throwing out a male plant, I know ur suppose to immediately, but I want to make sure they are males 100%

last few pics, wats this curling from?? bottom leaves are not burned from nutes. This is only on 1 plant on 3 or 4 of its top leaves?????

I would say that at least 1 of them looks a little overwatered / underwatered and they look a little under nuted, BUT if you nute now you take the chance of over doing it due to the fact you just transplanted and the soil may have nutrients already in it. What kind of soil are you using?

Regarding your question about males it takes them 8-12 days to drop their pollen so I would say give them about 5 total AT MOST. I usually wait 2 days after signs so no chances of throwing out a female happen. Hope this helps! :)

If you can get about 300 watts of cfl any plants under that will grow like crazy man. Use more cfls for veg and it'll work great trust me. Look at the beginning of my journal. I had like 15 26 watt cfls in there lol. As far as picture 7-8 I might wait another day or 2 til the balls drop away from the stem, then you don't have to worry about throwing out a female on accident.

2nd week into flowering, 4 females left out of 9. What do you guys think? They are growing so tall now, I had to raise the light a lot lately, 3 plants are 2ft 6 inches, plant in milk bottle is 1ft 6 inches, the light is 5 inches from the tops, but I cant get them all to fit right under the light as you can tell in the pics. I keep switching around plants so they can share light

I have one plant which was directly under the light producing tons of small bud spots ( hard to see in pics). Reason I decided to roatate plants

I have top leaves curling and tacoing down and some slightly tacoing up, which makes me really confused??? Is this a heat issue?
