I use a 250w because of the overall cost savings. It takes little power to run it and little to cool it. And people have great success with it. It is good enough for a 3x3 area but you want to get it down as low as possible. I have mine about 5-6 inches from my plant. I was using CFLs at first and then got my 250. Wow, huge difference in growth. Here is a good thread for you.

So im definitely gonna use my 250 watt hps after reading part of that thread hempstead told me about, thank you for that hempstead. The question now is where im going to put it in my apartment i have 3 closets im debating between
closet #1:

its being used for my lemon trees at the moment but they can be moved, the space would just fit my reflector but i would have no room for fans or anything so its no good.
closet #2:

this closet is in my bedroom so its very concealable, lightproof and would accomodate my 250 watt hps and several fans for cooling its a little wide like i could fit two 250 watt hps in there but i could always put up some mylar so i dont waste light

closet #3:

would be ideal, but its right by my front door so anytime anyone came in my apartment they would easily be able to smell whats going on in there so thats definitely out of the question

Dude go with the closet in your room. Its pleanty big enough for 3 plants. I wouldn't worry about covering the walls with mylar, the room is already painted white so thats fine. You could use mylar if you have the extra cash of course. I'm not sure if the light in the first picture is the one you're using or not but if it is, you need a reflector on it so the rays aren't wasted and get focused on your plants.
