2020 Outdoor Grow Diary

Hi Guys,

I thought I'd put something together on here to track my 2020 grow and hopefully be able to give an end to end journey of all the good, bad and ugly things that happen over the session.
Please do comment or advise if you feel there are any errors made or areas that could be done better.

Grow Callander 2020

This years grow I have selected the following feminised seeds from AMS Amsterdam seeds - 6 White Widow/ 3 Afghan/ 3 Boarderline Extrm/ 1 Durban poison.
I have postioned a guerilla grow site in the South of England, which is southerly facing and good levels of protection from wind, animals and people. I spent the winter cutting away any branches and shrubs that had grown into the space and dug and composted/ added manure in preparation for the beginning of the session.
I grow on the same site last year but have extended the plot by about a further half meter square, making the plot around 2*2m. My plan for this session is to try to grow many smaller plants and attempt a sort of sea of green approach to maximise the yield of top quality buds.

Seedling Stage

~ 24th March 2020
Set 6 White Widow, 4 Durban Poision, 3 Afghan and 3 Boarderline Extrem seeds (16) to chit in between wet tissue paper.

~ 27th March 2020
Seeds have chitted , but have ended up with 6 White Widow, 1 Durban Poision, 3 Afghan and 3 Borderline Extrem (13) potted chitted seeds into plug trays using home made potting compost and growing on window sill.

~ 9th April 2020
Good level of growth over the past week and roots have started to come out the bottom of the plug cells, potted up seedlings from plug trays into small individual pots, continuing to grow on widow ledge until weather warms slightly.

~ 13th April 2020
Plants responding well with good growth, started hardened plants off outside during the day.

~ 28th April 2020
Plants are starting to really take off in growth and look quite strong, started leaving plants in greenhouse overnight as the weather has improved and risk of frosts have passed. I have now started to feed them with a high N fert but half in general the recommended doesage levels, I will increase this as the plants grow over the next few weeks.

~ 5th May 2020
Plant roots have started to appear through the bottom of the pots, potted plants up to next pot size (but potted 1 up in bigger pot to keep at home ).

~ 14th - 16th May 2020
All plants have hit the 6 nodes and have entered veg stage, all standing at around 30cm high. At this point, i topped all plants at 5 nodes, giving them time to recover before being repostioned and planted into the outdoor plot. Now feeding fert at full recommended strength.
On the 16th May, I removed all plants apart from 1 White Widow and replanted them in the plot site which I had prepaired the week before, adding more composite and light manure in preparation for the plants going in. I water the plants in with just plain water and erected a wire fence around to stop any animals.

Next stop, vegging!

Vegging Stage

~ 21st May 2020
Inspected site and plants to ensure they had transplanted ok, all looks fine and plants have started to show growth. I watered the plants with 12L of fert water. The weather is starting to get pretty hot and will need to make sure I'm watering every time I go to the site.

~ 28th May 2020
Visited site to water and feed plants, The weather has been very hot weather with little to no rain. Plants were very dehydrated and needed lots of water, gave 12L of fert water although little growth noted due to lack of water and acclimatising to site soil.

~ 29th May 2020
Revisited site for additional watering and feeding, gave another 12L. Plants looked much better after previous days watering, although nowhere near as much growth as the plant at home.

~ 4th June 2020
Visited site and watered with 12L of fert water. Plants are stating to grow strongly and removed small growth at base of plants.

~ 11th June 2020
Good levels of growth, watered with 12L of fert water. Started to LST and prune the plants to fill the space.

~ 18th June 2020
Again good levels of growth, watered with 12L of fert and completed further LST and super cropping of plants, to continue the plan to fill the area of growth.

Vegging stage (2nd month)

~ 25th June 2020
Good growth seen, watered with 12L of fert water. Completed some trimming, LST/ Fimming and super cropping. Sprayed with bug spray and took some cuttings for clones. Very hot weather hitting 33 degrees, with some support short light showers.



~ 2nd July 2020
Watered plants with 12L of fert water, lightly trimmed and a little LST. Took some more cuttings for cloning, showing good level of growth. Weather has been cooler and good levels of rain fall. Looking lush and green, with a few leaf beetle marks on leaves.




~ 9th July 2020
Watered with 12L of fert water, lightly trimmed and a little LST. Showed good level of growth, removed the chicken wire to improve LST and tying down with stakes. Again cooler weather, with good levels of rain fall. Still looking lush and green, with a few leaf beetle marks on leaves. Broke/ split two main topped growths while completing LST, tied up with string to repair damage to splits.




~ 16th July 2020
Watered with 12L of fert water, lightly trimmed/ FIM and some LST. Something has been eating the lower fan leaves and small lower branches, could be a rabbit ! Added some string to hold growth and support long branches, also to restrict the rabbit. Started to notice the beginnings of pre-flower growth. Warmer weather 20+degrees, mainly cloudy but some sunny days.. weekend onwards is going to be better weather.

Vegging stage (3rd month)

~ 23rd July 2020
Waterered with 12L of fert water. Warmer weather high 20's, no rain for 10 days - plants very dehydrated and wilting, plants wilting due to lack of water.



~ 24th July 2020
Watered with 12L of fert water, plants have recovered from dehydration and looking better. Some rain due over the next week with over cast/ some cloudy days, which will help while away for 8 days. Next visit will be in two weeks time.






~ 5th Aug 2020
Watered with 12L of fert water.Warmer weather continues, high 20 degrees hitting mid 30’s, no rain for 10 days - plants very dehydrated, plants wilting again due to lack of water.



~ 7th August 2020
Watered with 12L fert water. Very warm weather mid 30's. Still no rain for 14 days - plants still dehydrated with some slight wilting due to lack of water. Although, plants have responded really well to previous watering.
Lightly trimmed lower leaves to increase air flow and improve humidity levels throughout plants.
Noted, possible male plant (front left of photos) removed and inspected possible pollen sack. Seemed strange as came from feminism seeds, not sure if it's a hermy If the plant is male, may remove most of the plant but leave part of the plant in place for next years seeds.

Vegging stage (3rd month) - home plant

~ 9th Aug 2020
Looking nice and bushy with lots of budding sites, over the next week or two I expect the plant to start flowering phase. Plant is 80cm high, 70cm wide and 60cm deep. No clue to what the yield will be, but guessing around the 30/40grm mark, although the White Widow seeds review suggest around 5oz....

Vegging Stage (month 4)

~ 9th Aug 2020
Watered with 12L of plain water no fertiliser. Warmer weather hitting mid 30’s, no rain for 14 days - plants not showing any signs of dehydration or wilting.
Suspected male plant looks more like it is a male, with pollen sacks starting to increase in volume and size. Some plants starting to look like they are beginning to move towards the flowering stage.



~ 12th Aug 2020
Watered with 12L of fertiliser, lightly trimmed and some LST. Added some string to hold growth and support long branches. Started to notice stretching, another sign of the beginning flowering. Not sure whether to keep the male plant and leave for next years seeds!
Incredibly hot and sunny weather mid 30’s degrees, and still no rain now for 3 weeks+, although rain due over the forthcoming week. Plants look a little droopy due to lack of water, but still looking good!



~ 13th Aug 2020
Decided not to water today as the forecasts are for heavy rain from today and over the next week. Weather continues to be warm, has been mid 30's, but dropping to low to mid 20's. The plants weren't dehydrated but soil was quite dry.
Confirmed male plant was removed today. Inspected the pollen sacks, none have opened, so should be clear for all the other females.
LST'd other plants to increase air flow, reduce humidity and open up light levels throughout the plants.
Noted today the beginning of flowering, most plants are displaying pistils and should start to fully start flowering in the next week or so.



~ 20th Aug 2020
Decided not to water today as there has been heavy rain for the past few days. Weather has been low to mid 20's and dropping to mid teens at night. No more male plants confirmed amongst the plants.
Completed some LST and pruned plants to increase air flow and light and to reduce humidity. Removed large fan leaves on 5th node and down from all branches.
Noted significant stretching of plants and more pre-flowers beginning to appear, most plants are displaying pistils and should start to fully start flowering in the next week.



~ 21st Aug 2020
Watered with 12L of fert water. Last N fert watering, next watering will be switched to a high P and K fert ready for flowering. Weather continues to be around mid 20's and dropping to mid teens at night. Average humidity is around 75%. LST'd plants further to increase air flow and light and to reduce humidity. Next stop flowering!

Hi There, just wanted to stop by and say what Beautiful Ladies you have in your Guerilla Grow. I'm in the South West of England and have always wondered how Photoperiod period plants would do with our weather. I've seen quite a few Auto grows and they seem to do well so im really interested to see how yours get on. Were you successful last year? Cheers

Hi buddy, thanks for the comments, the girls are starting to look nice now and already smelling beautiful!
Strangely I tried autos last year for the first time and was quite disappointed with the yield, also I got a mould issue late on in flowering which reduced the volume of flowers. All my previous years grows have been with photos, and have generally been very successful.
As long as you get the right strains for the British climate they generally do really well. I find durbon poision and WW do really well, but you just need to make sure you get a strain that has a good level of mould resistance.
Fingers crossed we have an Indian summer and the next 8-10 weeks aren't too wet, which will really help with the quality and yield, but as you know there's no way of controling it!

Flowering Stage (month 5)

~ 24th Aug 2020
No watering made due the weather forecast. Weather continues to be around mid 20's and dropping to mid teens at night. Very windy and rainy weather with average humidity around 90%. Added further string supports ready for bud development and high wind protection.


~ 25th Aug 2020
Added 250g of bat guano and watered in with 4L of bloom fert. Weather continues to be around mid 20's and dropping to mid teens at night. Average humidity is around 90%, Although very windy. First real flowers have appeared on most plants, removed some large leaves covering budding sites.


~ 29th Aug 2020
Watered with 2L of bloom fert. Weather continues to be around low 20's and dropping to 10 degrees at night. Average humidity is around 90%, Although still windy. All plants have flowers, removed some large leaves covering budding sites and amended some LST ties.



~ 04th Sept 2020
Watered with 10L of bloom fert and added another 100g of bat guano. Weather continues to be around 20 and dropping to 8 degrees at night. Average humidity is around 82%. All plants continue to stretch and producing flowers, removed some large leaves covering budding sites and lollipoped plants amending some branches by LST.


~ 08th Sept 2020
Watered with 4L of bloom fert. Plants look a little dehydrated, last rain fall was 8 days ago. Weather continues to be around 20 and dropping to 8 degrees at night, average humidity is around 75%. All plants have finished stretching and now fully producing flowers, removed various leaves covering budding sites and opening up the canopy.



~ 09th Sept 2020
Watered with 10L of bloom fert. Plants look better from yesterday's watering, plants are now drinking lots of water and still no rain fall. Weather continues to be around 20 and dropping to 10 degrees at night, average humidity is around 75%. All plants are developing budding sites. Removed various leaves covering budding sites and leaves which were showing signs of dying or had been eaten.


~ 11th Sept 2020
Watered with 12L of bloom fert. Plants have responded well to previous waterings, although plants continue to be drinking lots of water and soil appeared to be fairly dry to touch. Good levels of growth to budding sites over the past 2 days. Weather has remained to be around high teens to low 20's and dropping to 8-10 degrees at night, average humidity is around 75%. Continued to remove leaves covering budding sites and leaves which were showing signs of dying or had been eaten.

They're looking Super Healthy my friend, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that we get some more sun now instead of this Rubbish rain that we've been having. Great Work, Cheers

Thanks buddy! The forecast is good that I can see for the forthcoming 2-3 weeks, I just hope this continues over October too! Fingers crossed!

Flowering Stage (month 5-6)

~ 17th Sept 2020
Watered with 12L of bloom fert. Plants looked a little dehydrated and continue to be drinking lots of water. Budding sites continue to grow and have increased in size over the past 5 days. Weather has remained to be around high mid 20's and dropping to 12 degrees at night, average humidity is around 65%.




~ 25th Sept 2020
No need to water due to heavy rain over the past 36hrs. Shook all plants and branches to remove excess water and allow to dry as much as possible. Budding sites continue to grow and have increased dramatically in size over the past week. Weather has changed and temps have dropped to around high-mid teens and dropping to 7 degrees at night, average humidity has been around 75%.
