1st time PPK grow after years away.

Been away from growing for several year, happy to be back. I have done DWC and autopot in the past. Loved the ease of DWC. Not such a fan of autopot. I am in the process of building my PPK system. This is only a single plant grow. It will have a 4x4x9' area in a shed I just finished building. The final building and electrical inspection was last Friday. Glad as fuck to have the city gone. overall shed size is 12x15. I will be using a 20gal elevated rez, a 5gal pump bucket, and a 27 gal under plant. lighting and fan will be controlled by a lutron smart switch. flood switching will be controlled by the Auber timer in the pic. lighting is a 240 volt 1000w MH/HPS nanolux og. 6" carbon/exhaust.

If anyone is interested or not familiar PPK stands for passive plant killer. The growing tub is regularly completely flooded with nutrient water and it immediately drains through a 3" pvc back to the tub below pulling oxygen in as it recedes.

Comments, questions and general dipshitery welcome.

An acknowledgment. This grow method was developed by delta9 years ago on another site.

I used two of these on the 3" tubing. the top one as a flange to hold the tube in the 7gal grow tub and the other at the bottom for root control. the top one i cut the grate out with a hole saw and sanded with sandpaper on a roll.

I am now testing the nute system for leaks. since everything Chinese (not a political statement) is junk I will be putting an overflow line draining outside as I don't trust the float valve.

I added multiple shutoff and disconnect points to make the system easier to work with. Tomorrow I will work on adding the timer to the pump and from there it will be soaking the coco in a nute solution for 24hrs.

Awesome. Hoping it grows huge. I have an ace malawi in flower week 7. I want to build a PPK. What medium are you using? USA growers in PPK are liking the fiber and chip from prococo in AZ.

Good luck..

Hows it goin? I am just getting ready to put the sprout in the ppk. Yes I am using prococo per delta9xs on another site. I may or may not be successful with this, but the method is proven

20201224_092555.jpgWell here goes.
Ok all I have this thing built I just put a Ace Malawi Gold into prococo.

I am running 900ppm on a .5 conversion
around 5.8 ph
a 7 gal tuff tub sitting on 20 gal of nutes
a 5 gal pump bucket with a float valve to a 20 gal trash bucket
I am running an airstone in the pump bucket. This is my own thing it is not necessary.
I am running the pump 30 sec (about 1/2 gal) every 90 min.
I am using a 1000w vivosun mh grow lamp 14hr on.

Not much exciting goin on. She seems a little on the yellow side to me. I am concerned the light may be too strong at this point.

Good guess on the height, 31". I though 1000w would be ok at that height. Maybe the bulb is just a crappy bulb.
Well to be fair I eyeball material all day from across the shop because if it's not big enough I'm not walking over there lol.
Maybe you could try to block a little light until the plant matures some. I'm limited in my grow space so I've used some of that garden mesh to keep the plants from getting burned. But if you've got space or other lights maybe change it up.

Another update. after putting in the coco on Dec 24 I havent done anything other than look at it. Im not sure about growth rate, it seems ok. I think I should probably start trimming soon as I am looking for a flat canopy on netting. I have never done this before so any input would be great. thx.

4x4 area..that plant in a ppk will take the whole area.. scrog will work great.maybe 2 tier as the buds get big.. i vegged my malawi from ace for 5 weeks and it consumes 2.5x2.5 in coco dtw.. you will get a pound for sure.. she does not like too high RH in flower..
I like the DIY halo.. i read delta's journal also.. is 3inch tailpipe too big? What's the air gap?
Keeping an eye on gnats?
Are your walls gypsum? Might want to cover it.. nice looking shed.
Ace has one of the best malawi on the market.
