1st time grow

and was thinking to go up to 22/2..I'm in my second week of growing. I just read that plants produce sugar during light cycle, this sugar mixes with CO2 which produces amino acids. And amino acids are the building blocks of muscle, or in a plant's life, veg growth. When this happens, O2 is released. So in theory the ultimate grow is 24/0 then 12/12 for flowering. The reason people go 18/6 is to save 25% on electricity. Sometimes I wish people would give the best solutions, not the best solutions that worked because they took shortcuts..:-) It's known in pop culture that 18/6 is the veg cycle after 24/0 on the seeds or clones. What a person should do is leave it on for 24/0 because this is sugar production which then is amino acid production in growth. I do see the flipside where too many undergrowth nodes hinder SOG grows. maybe..

You are absolutely right. 24\0 produces the most rapid growth. And thats hardly natural ,the sun usually sets once a day. But it looks like you have all your ducks in a row keep it up!

so yesterday, I decided to change the hours of daylight. After a discovery that 24 hours of light is best for the plant, but this whole time I thought 18/6 was optimal, really threw me back. It's written on every bathroom stall that 18/6 is the way to go. Now after leaving that stall, and its later in life, I discovered that if you want the best possible results, not worried about anything, go with 24/0 until you want to flower, then go 12/12. I grow because like all other concerned people out there, and true connoisseurs, that we want to only have the best for ourselves. we're possibly, at least I am, watchful what we consume. If you aren't concerned about finances, grow at 24 hours of light until you want to flower, then go 12/12. remember fellow tokers, you control the environment. The plant won't be moody, and have a bad day or a headache because of the constant light, but instead, you will provide this hella weed with the best of everything. You are not exploiting the weed, this plant actually loves constant light. Okay enough of my ranting, I'm just here to report on the llight change, and since it's probably too soon to determine if the light stressed them or not, i'll just say that they look beautiful this A.M. :leaf:

going to 4 buckets probably tomorrow. Letting the silicone dry now. Only concern is I will only have one bucket that will have the bubbles, and the pump in the same bucket, the other 3 buckets wont have but a single sprinkler head ran to them. This H2O will be oxygenated but the 3 buckets won't get the airbubble spray. Shouldn't be a prob since the pump will be delivering this oxygenated H2O to the roots of each bucket via 4 sprinkler heads.:joint:

have spent 72 hours and two tubes of caulking to try to get these round buckets sealed. I'm going to find square buckets. I hookes up with united plastics, and they have nice square ones. I have a few pics of the powerhead that can handle 6 tubes coming from it. Rain bird makes it. I also threw in one of the very early pick just to show you that time changes the essence of man, cuz I couldn't be happier with my plants. Welllllll I do need to transplant, I'm seeing root balls forming. Look at a few of those pics of the plants, they have so much mid growth. I have chutes coming from everywhere. I need a better camera.

thanks mac. So they say history repeats itself. well after the bucket fiascal, i've gone back to the rubbermaid. I can now say that I tried to grow in knowledge, but I have to say that one should never experiment while you are growing. Well, i dunno, all I know is that bucket thing was whack!!! I do have my eyes on some square buckets..........It's basically a logistics thing. Might be moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota just passed senate file 97 which allows for medicinal relief to minnesota. You're allowed 2.5 z's and 12 plants I think there's a and/or clause but either way, the state also allows non-profit herb clinics...can you say Los Angeles? Minneapolis will be the chronic capital of the midwest.

okay, since this is my first time grow and I'm not cloning, so I'll admit that I mixed up the seedlings at birth, and not sure which 2 are the ice and which 2 are the persian kush. Either phuq'n way.....this morning, I rubbed a couple leaves, and bro.....my fingertips smell like citrus vagina!! ha! Seriously though, if you're a schwag smoker, you would seriously throw away that metal pipe and dirty screens and go ahead and grow a couple seeds. You don't know where your weed is grown......that worries me right there. This chron that I'm growin...I wish I could share it with the schwaggers out there....we need some legislation to free up that small area of your garden so that you can grow your own lil section of chronic. To all of you out there in doubtland that think growin good quality herbs isn't better than buying it on the street.....come smell these finger tips, you'll phuq'n cry.

damn bro, thats why i love hydro, the progress is a HUGE difference than growth in dirt. that rubbermaid is the best thing to use, i also have a grey one lol. they get big and i mean 13 set leaves on the monsters, so watch out, they have alot of room for the roots so they will GROW

so I transferred up to a bigger tub, this time it is the 20 gallon rubbermaid. This one allows the plants room to stretch their arms. I went with the bigger tub so I could skip the bucket system, and just grow them using this. I like it because its black, so the nutrients aren't bothered and also it has twice the lid area that the silver one did. The silver one also leaked out around the edges, causing a nice pool of H2O every morning. Now about my plants. I have some serious undergrowth going on with my plants. it's like I have so much light, that the plants are leaking stems. I have one plant that has 2 branches per grow, throughout the grow. It's like its 2 plants in one. Another cool thing is I still have those 2 baby teeth initial leaves, you know, the roundish ones. They're still chillin, and soft velvety green. I've been looking for the alternating branch growth but, I haven't got that yet. Once I get the alternating branches, it tells me that the plant is ready to bear fruit.....diggity dankity dank fruit....oops I mean it's ready for flowering. Look at the pics, I have the undercanopy growing out from beneath. It is serious branch action going on. The plants are about 4/5 inches tall, and they have about 20 branches each. If you take a close up pic, it looks like the growth of a 50 year old oak tree ha! Check the pics, doubt me another time. Also, the pics have the UV bands in the pics. Thats what I get for using my cellphone cam.

thanks Neo, I don't have any options while using the metal halide as far as getting the light closer. When I go 400 hps, I bought one of those pyrex tubes for the 400 hps, which then I'll connect to my fan and make a homeade cooltube. I'll supposedly be able to park it 6 inches from the top of the plants. You know, I really should know if it gets hot. I have a week till red and I haven't assembled the light. Been smoking schwag, and ......focus.....is......fading..........The metal halide is such a big azz bulb, but I did measure and I'm 18 inches from arc to the top of the plants. I had some over nute issues early in the game, and you can see the "rusty" leaves on one plant, but the newest growth is much better. This occured I think due to heat and ph issues, and overnute. I ALSO think that I used the General Hydroponics(GH) micro and gro solution together, and if you know anything about the lucas formula, you'd know that the gro is not used, and infact, the micro has enough nitrogen by itself. I KNOW this was the problem b4, and since I've evolved, and have better living conditions for the plants, I now realize this to be true. I hate to say anything negative about GH, but they've excelled beyond compare with their nutrients. I now no longer need the grow part, you know, the green stuff. Also this morning, the plant in the picture that has jose' working it's leaves, well I now realize that those two plants are the same, and the two across the tub are of the same gene. I don't know which ones which, but I think the ones that jose is going to be working today are the ice plants, because the persian seems to be more of an indica and that would make it bushy in sorts compared to the white strain ice, which is northern/skunk/hmmm, what else is throw in those genetics......and also the stems have all this peach fuzz all over them. Also, no shit, the leaves smell like .......peaches? Okay about my gardening skillz, I may have to find some tubing and place the res in the basement, and run up the floor to my grow tent and deal with the summer heat coming. My tent is too tall for the basement. The tent is 7 ft tall. Next monday I'm going 12/12, and I may throw in a couple 24 inch t5s daylight bulb to squeeze the last bit o' chronic out of the plant. So I'll have a 400 watt hps and 2 t5s burning 6500k. That is IF i can find that other t5.....:peace:

whats up smokin? ive had this thread open for a few days now and just read all the way through it. youre doin a great job bro, i guess besides the experimental mishap!

i had a quick question reguarding your lighting situation:

Now I went from 6500 lumens which came from the hps, and since there are more lumens in that compared to the t5's, the higher lumens state the intensity level. I could have 100 t5's in there and the lumens output would still be 2400 lumens. Mind you that 2400 lumens would be in every inch of the grow box, but it wouldn't be any brighter. For some reason people are adding lumens together, which is wrong.
can you explain what you mean by this (especially in relation to CFLs maybe)? i guess im one of the many who thinks "the more the merrier"

youre plants are looking very nice. not much noticable abuse and very green! keep up the good work:joint::weed:

djphat, thanks bro. As far as the definition of lumens, think of it like jail term. Let's say that a 100 watt cfl puts off 1000 lumens. Lumens run concurrent with each other, not consecutive. Now lets say your crime is however many 100 watt bulbs there are. Let's say that you had possesion with 10 100 watt bulbs. So the judge sentences you to lumens time, and you'll get 1000 lumens for each bulb you had, and the jail sentence won't be consecutive, which would to add up all your charges and serve that, which equals 10000 lumens! The judge ordered concurrent NOT consecutive which would be 1000 lumens, not concurrent, which is 10000 lumens. If lumens were calculated as adding together all the cfl's, you would have 10,000 lumens, which is up there with the HID bulbs. So you could have 10 100 watt bulbs in your grow room, and your lumens will be 1000 lumens. I'm just using the numbers for easy math. So if you can get 500 lumens from one bulb, and you have 20 of them, the brightest your grow room will be is 500 lumens. Lumens is like intensity, the numbers can't go up if you haven't brought anything brighter than a 500 lumens bulb, even though you have say.....32 bulbs, the BRIGHTEST that room of diggity dank will be, is 500 lumens. I hope this helps.

the question still remains then. . .whats the hype of having 15,000 CFLs in a 6ft square grow room? light saturation?

i wanna show you a little diagram i came up with, but i cant get the pics off my cam. ill link a post later tonite/tomorrow if i get it worked out.

they're your babies in the longrun, so if you wanna feed them 500 lumens from 30 sources, that's cool. I'm more of a 40,000 lumens guy. The cfl rage is more of a fad. You can't possibly crank out more light intensity than a 400 watt metal halide by using 50 24 watt cfls.....sorry bro. What you do score in is trying to beat the system. I thought at one time that if I had (4) 5000 lumens each 48 inch t-5's that I would actually have 20000 lumens! but if you read the ad, it says that each bulb is 5000 lumens.....so where does the other 15000 lumens come from? Probably a 175 watt MH stashed in your grow room. If you were to imagine that a drop of alcohol was (1) lumen, then a cfl is the size of a shot glass, and a 400 MH is the size of a beer pitcher. You can only get so much alcohol in that whiskey shot glass, but a pitcher has much more space capacity abilty to handle more alcohol(i.e. lumens). It's all about resistance in the powerbox. A 400 watt holds back 400 watts and manipulates that energy into a fake sunray. A cfl can only hold back 24 watts before light energy leaks out as useable light. Wow.....I ramble when I'm stoned.

hah, its only rambling if youre not talking about anything important IMO. good analogy though. if you look at it that way, when you down the shot glass of whiskey youre done. if you fill that pitcher full of whiskey people are going to start asking questions! like-wise with the MH set-ups youre more likely to be gain unwanted attention (heat signature, exhausting air, etc.) of course i say all this with a months worth of reading this forum under my belt. not quite an expert opinion. im definately going to poke around the CFL Growers theads and see what they had/have to say. Thanks! whats up on an update?:peace:

checking out digital cameras. I need to post better pics. The plants are entering their 4th weekish, and they're exploding with growth. Seeing better growth out of 2 of the plants....2 males 2 females? Will post pics saturday, I think....I REALLY don't want to shop for a camera, but I did see a black n gold special edition Nikon D60....no chrome anywhere, its gold instead. Anyway, I did finally get smart with the bucket system and found these grommets and barb fittings that work great. Now its grow time for the plants. Lil nervous about the LST I'm going to attempt. The way it happens is plants sole purpose is procreation. That's why some plants bear fruit, so that the fruit can get eaten, then it is "dumped" along the way, and along with the seed, also comes fertilizer. So you have this tomb for the seed to live on. Anyway, during LST, the plants cola is hindered, and the plant, through Darwinism, MUST HAVE A COLA to reach above all others, and capture that male pollen as it cruises by in the wind. The best cola gets the majority of the pollen, mainly because it is coated with sticky icky, making sure that male sperm doesn't get away once nabbed. So in LST, the plant gets tied down, and now its freaked because It needs the cola up there to ensure procreation and continual existence. The main purpose of cola is to be bigger than the neighbor plant, and also be up in the air current, not down on the ground. Female plants will overcome, and if the main cola is disrupted, it will send out new brances to go up and into the air current, in hopes of gathering male pollen. That's all this plant does, the females job is to get the biggest and stickiest cola it can hold up there. It's darwinism, the plant makes resin to coat the buds, so the buds can get pollinated. Survival of the fittest, so when the top of the plant is tied down, it thinks that a car tire has parked ontop of it, so it releases hormones that make all other branches grow rapidly, carrying all this small and not as killa as the main cola, up into the air current. It's quite ruthless how I treat my girls, tricking them into believing that they'll finally go on a date, and when they leave prom, sneak over to the hotel, all hot and bothered by now, and then when she opens the motel room, where she'll finally get "pollenated" BAM!! I'm behind the door, and I harvest her.
