1st grow attempt

ok so here is what i am doing

seeds are silver haze (reguler)
growing medium is multipupose compost mixed with some sand and styrofoam beads
growing box is a small cardboard box lined with white paper
lighting i have 2 14 watt cfl's 2700K (i need more i know)
i do not have a PH tester, any nutes or PH adjuster at this time.

i have tried to germ 2 of the seeds using the paper towl method and they have been in about 36 hours and nothing, all thats happened is the seeds have darkened in colur a little bit, the temperature has been fluctuating though between 21'C - 30'C because they are in my bolier cubord, do you think this might be why they arnt cracking or have they just not had long enuff? i used tap water that has sat out for about a week, PH unknown, but i think i live in a soft water area.

any comments apreciated

The chances are you have cooked your seeds with temps up to 30C

This is what i do

Soak the seed in some water for 6hours somewhere dark Eg a cupboard.
Plant it into your medium 1/16 inch down and cover with some of your medium
Water it in
Place a humidity dome over the top
Place under your lighting on 18/6 schedule.

Takes anywhere from 2-7days to pop out of the soil.

ok then thanks, but i thuoght that temps that high would acclerate germination?, and by soak the seeds do you just mean drop them in some water?

Yes just drop them into a glass half full of water for 6hours

temps should not really exceed 27C for germination

I try to keep mine around 22C or under.

Just pop them into a glass and place that glass in a dark place maybe in a cupboard in your kitchen for 6hours it should be warm enough in there.

I wish i could say it was my smoke but its not. It was a prize from me guessing a guys yield to within 0.3ounces i guessed 104.3ounces and he actually harvested 104.6ounces.

I did have the luxury of seeing his plants in person though so you could say i had an unfair advantage.

you'd probably also want to run the 6500*K CFL's for your VEG stage, not the warm 2700*K

not very good to grow in clear cups/pots... the roots don't like the light.

that seedling in the picture had to be transplanted because its tap root was along the bottom of the container it was like 2-3 days old do you think it wil die?
