1000w|vert|scrog|coco|KISS donut of love featuring Bodhi gear

So was curious if anybody had any input on my KISS approach to feeding. I've been using that Canna A + B for the last few runs. The second to last coco-only run, I took it all the way through the end of flower and then didn't feed at all for the last few days before chop. After that run I decided to do some more research and try to get away from the stoner myths I had grown up on, which led me to throw out the long-held ideas about "flushing" the medium before harvest and reconsider my approach.

Last run, I did the A+B all the way through about the 7th or 8th week of flower, tapering the dosage down as I went, then switched only to powdered KoolBloom for the last few weeks, tapering that down as well as I got to the end (I took them 11-12.5wks from flip total). I had good results but I'm always looking to improve, so my question is this: should I be running the A+B the entire time and just really cut the dosage down hard towards the end as I taper (like 4-5 ml/gal instead of the 10ml/gal they're currently getting, down from 12-15ml/gal they received during veg and early flower) and stick only with these? Should I do that and also add in a smaller dose of Kool Bloom? Or is there a better way that I'm not considering?

What do you guys think? I'm curious to hear some opinions from folks who have used the canna a + b and also coco guys in general since I know it changes the game a little bit using a complete 2 part mix like I'm using instead of just a 1 part formula or multiple nutrients in tandem. Thanks y'all.

fuck that canopy's a mess in the 400w tent, lol

That's what happens when I try to stuff 6 huge plants of varying heights in a 3x3 area and don't train early enough I guess, reap what I sow...

Did some bending (and breaking) night before last as the first maneuver towards a well filled-out screen. I realized that this is a weird looking donut now that things are getting tied to the screens. There's a part of me that wants to take a page out of tystik's book and just turn it into a 3-walled scrog with the front wall remaining open for access, but that's a lot of wasted wall space and also puts the bulb a little farther away than I would like it -- ideally I want it as close as possible without burning or bleaching. The other option (aside from doing some very basic tying and then essentially leaving it alone, i.e. the lazy method) is to simply turn it into an octagon by dropping a piece of screen at an angle across the corners and then still leaving a bit of room at the front for access to the tent. That way it'll still be a donut with a bite missing as it is now...99% sure I'll just finish up by doing this but still considering my options. Kinda tough to see exactly what to do yet just because they're still not quite done stretching, but you also have to have some faith when you're bending and twisting and tying and remember that in a day or two things will look very different than they do the day you start tying them down, and a week later it will be filling out properly if it was done well. I'll post some pics here in a bit when I get home so y'all can see what I mean.
Better plants, bro.
Fuck man I love and hate taking photo documentation at the same time...it's super helpful but when I don't have my head in the game it's depressing to look at that sloppy shit.

Brother,
Your Sloppy shit looks awesome!

Thank you my friend!

Looks rad! The pot allergy is strange. But then again my immune system attacks my skin, ccausing purple spots to turn into scars. Hopefully it'll stay off my genitals. Bodies aren't Swiss watches.
Weird, what's that condition like? I know how shitty immune system problems are...my girlfriend has a severe auto-immune disorder and although she is technically in remission again she has had to do chemo treatments a few times in the past year to keep it that way. It's really hard to watch someone's body eat them from the inside out basically. She's tough as shit though and you would never know she's in constant pain, definitely more hardcore than I am because I have chronic back pain and I'm a total pussy about it. lol

400w tent humming along...obviously smaller flowers vs. the bare bulb 1000w blasting the donut but looking phenomenal up close. In a week or so when it's worth the trouble I'll get some decent macro shots, until then...

I've done very little with the plants that are in the corners of the vert tent (3 of the 5) as this appears to be the perfect space for a 1000w to test the whole "defoliation myth," if you want to call it that. It's something I've done for a long time and never really thought about in detail, it was just instinctual to do. I usually pull large fan leaves which are blocking bud sites because despite the fact that I know how important the leaves are to the plant, I always figured that the benefit outweighed the detriment in terms of increasing penetration, which seemed to lead to improved yield and quality. I've only ever run verticals with 600w lights, so this is my first time with a 1000w in any sort of vertical application. I'm seeing that there appears to be sufficient penetration to where it's less necessary than it was previously to remove shade leaves and actively train the plant along the wall.

I'd say this is fairly obvious and makes sense based on my previous experience with 1000w vs. 600w (and smaller) bulbs in horizontal setups in regards to penetration, but I guess I wanted to see it for myself. I did recently do a bit of casual zip-typing just to move the canopy back a bit as the 1000w was bleaching some leaves, but things are coming along beautifully. Temps are also consistent -- 3-5 degrees more than ambient temperature outside of the room, so it really seems like with adequate extraction you can't go wrong with a close bare bulb 1000w in this space.

@tystikk, here's where you come in and tell me to just drop some COBs in there...okay go. No seriously, I'm wondering if I can build out a similar setup to yours to make my life easier come summertime if I wanted to run this year-round. I've seen some glowing posts from you in regards to your new setup that still really have me thinking. Couple questions -- what would be the overall cost to replace the lighting I currently have in the vert tent with the equivalent amount of COBs? And what sort of extraction is necessary with these lights versus HIDs? I know there are a lot of factors but just generally speaking here...

Two 'Ts'. Gotta find the member on the popup list and click the box to set the alert in the script.

I'm only a week into my first COB run, so to be perfectly honest all I can tell you is that the ladies are responding like gangbusters! ...so far.

I ran HPS in vertical silos for years, works fine. More is better. Eventually you'll get tired of heat stress and wish for more frost and you'll consider an upgrade to MH. DON'T DO IT.

One possible exception is CMH/CDM. Low frequency digital square wave ballast powered lighting is efficient and produces a good spectrum. This can be had at 315W and another member here is testing a Philips 860W CDM Allstart on a Horti Platinum 1000W low frequency digital square wave ballast. So far, so good!

The step up from all of that is COB LED, at least so went my thinking. I'm just at the front end of testing so I can't prove anything yet.

There's still plenty of heat. I switched from 5400W of HID on magnetic ballasts to 5400W of COB LED. The room is not suddenly running twenty degrees cooler, lol The heat IS easier to manage.

We'll be talking more about this soon if I end up doing a late summer/early fall run and a winter run this year...I'm watching your thread closely in the mean time...

It's a jungle out there...I had miscounted before, this marks the end of the 5th week since the flip and around 4 wks of actual flowering...

Found my old point and shoot in a drawer so I tried a couple of close-ups, these are the only two that came out halfway decent. I think first is Goji and the second is a Silver Mountain but it could be a Jabba's Stash, lost track. I need to get some real shots without flash in a week or so when everything's looking really juicy. Gotta say everything is super funky already and I'm excited to see what comes out of this...the Silver Mountain in particular have a really extraordinary smell that I can't quite place but really enjoy.

Sorry she has to go through that. My "lichen sclerosis" causes lesions on the skin that eventually scar up. It feels like I ran through a bunch of black berry bushes or someone ripped some sandpaper across my stomach. Comes and goes in short waves. Looks like purple to dark blotches and scarring. Luckily it haven't spread to my junk yet. It's most common on women's vaginas. It's rare on men and typically affect the genitals.

I found out my SSDD keeper is the "sweet butter muffin" pheno. Pretty stoked about that.

Damn brotha, sounds gnarly. Hope it stays off of your junk.

Never seen anything about that SSDD pheno, but then again I'm not real familiar with SSDD in general, any pics of yours? Sounds really interesting...

Sorry for the pic quality, I've been using this point and shoot lately and it's tough getting used to it again. Everything still humming along, haven't spent more than 10 minutes a day on these in the last week so they're looking a little sloppy (and a little floppy, the Silver Mountain in the vert tent in particular are working on some monster colas, hard to tell since there's not really anything for scale in the pics). Had the light a little too close for comfort on the horizontal tent and a couple of the taller tops got a bit singed, but they'll be okay. I have some more tying to do for some of the plants in the vert tent that need some support from the ceiling and also need to fill in some holes that have been created by said floppy branches but everything's looking good overall. Should be on track for a late April finish if all goes to plan (flipped on 2/10, I'm assuming 9-10 weeks for pretty much everything but willing to take them as long as necessary).

First two shots are a Goji and a Jabba's Stash, the third is a Silver Mountain in the vert tent...only three that were clear enough to bother posting.

Did some serious work in the vert tent and managed to snag some somewhat better photos from inside of the donut...

First thing's first...

Here's the tall pheno of Jabba's Stash looking greasy in the vert tent (#3 of 4)

Digging the vertical tent action! Yes, scale gets tough to show in vertical setups, lol

It shows up just fine on the scale that matters tho.
