1000w hps vs 500 true wats led?

Ok so right now I have 2 optic 1 xl cobs 100true watts each 2x2 coverage each, and I’m planting in getting a 300 watt mars hydro tsl 2000... so would I be better off useing that or should I just get a 1000w hps?

100w is not enough for 2x2 coverage. aim for about 40w/ square foot. What size space are you growing in?

4x4 the optic 1xl. Has an average ppfd of 750 in the 2x2

Those are pretty badass leds but im still thinking they are a bit small for a 2x2 footprint but i could be wrong. A 1000w hps is sort of ideal for a 4x4 if the heat isnt an issue. If it is an issue which typically it is, go with led.

These are the lights a lot of LED guys are drooling on right now.

Depends how much of an issue heat is but yeah I agree if you can use hps, do so.

Could also consider a 630w CMH fixture and supplement with the leds you already have.

Use the Hortilux HPS. Has the highest umol. 1600umol.

Right but where are you sending the hot air?

Is that a whole unit or just a bulb

I’m sending the hot air into a carbon filter ou side of my tent into an unfinished basement it’s all cinder block and solid slab so it’s always like low 60s down their even in summer it’s like 65-66 tops and it’s all stone so I’d blow the hot air right at the cold floor to cool it off before it spreds

1000 watt hps will beat 500 watts led especially if you plan on using anything mars.

That LED is $800 more than a 1000 watt HPS kit that comes with a sealed hood and dimmable digital ballast and won't produce any better. If heat is an issue I guess some people would need it.

I say 1000 watt HPS all day everyday.

You will never yield the same with half the watts...doesn’t matter the efficiency of the diodes unless you’re a garbage grower.

Ive been using HID since they came out in 1978. Been using the Hortilux HPS for decades. Dont have to sell me on HID.

Stayed away from LED until recently, and bought a Gavita 1700e to experiment with. Also use a 1150w Gavita DE.

We are currently using the 1700e for veg, but in a month or so are going to experiment with it for flowering.


1700e is rated at 1700umol, Hortilux is 1600umol. DE Gavita is 2100umol.
Time will tell.

Just a thought. You'll be blowing hot, moist air into yer cool basement. Like a glass of iced tea on a hot afternoon, the cool basement is gonna condense the water vapor from yer tent exhaust and become damp. Be careful you dont start a basement mold issue.
