Ive been growing for a while with one 1000 hps light , and im thinking of adding another 1000 hps light, i know this extra light wil increase my electric bill but will it be significant that the piggies will be able to tell.

no, utility companies don't monitor user accounts. If you pay your bill on time, every time, you're just a good customer- and they'd like you to use a bit more if you don't mind. ;)

My op is 2x 1000HPS for flowering plus a 400HPS for veg, 3500W for 12h/day, 1300W for 12h/day- for the last 8 years. If someone is monitoring my power usage with intent to tip off the coppers, they're doing a shitty job. :D

The electric company likes money, and they get money when you use electricity, they have no reason to care about your usage. They will only give info to Leo if he gives them a warrant for that info. They would love you to put 3 in there and frankly so would I. Good luck.

Look at your bill and find out what you pay for kilowatt hour.

a 1000 watt = 1 kilo watt.

1 x number of hours used each day x rate = increase on bill.

100watt = .1 kilo watt.

.1 x number of hours used each day x rate = increase on bill.

400watt = .4 kilo watt.

.4 x number of hours used each day x rate = increase on bill.

This is per day so multiply the # of days in bill cycle or just use 30.

I pay 0.05/kWh. My op costs $86/mo in electricity, but I have a low cost source. Your rates are probably higher- probably closer to .15/kWh. At .15/kWh, my op would cost $259/mo.

RandyRocket's on it with the means to work out your power costs. :)

If your rate is .15/kWh and you are using a 1000 (1kW) for 12h/day, it's ($.15 x 1kW) x 12h/day = $1.80/day. A 400 (0.4kW) for 12h/day at the same rate is ($.15 x .4kW) x 12h/day = $0.72/day.

To be true, the op makes all the bud I need... and a bit. I am a stoned slacker and don't want to work any harder than I do now, as well. ;)

None the less, you must live in a great place where your leccy is only .05, we pay double that here....

Twice the lights = same cost...very cool...

BTW I read up on your system, really like the perpetualness of it...lol

Take care man.

Anyone can get power for the rates I pay... you just need one of these, which is very similar to the one I have. Mine is 15kW, though. Runs on natural gas straight out of the mains. It's actually about 3.4c per hour at max load (15kW uses about 6m^3 of nat gas per hour), but 5c/hour covers maintenance of the standby unit.

Runs on natural gas. Noise isn't at all bad, but you can hear it running up to about 5m away. Noise isn't one of my concerns as my nearest neighbour as several hundred metres away.

Oh now i get why you leccy is cheap, its one of those deal, where you have no power lines running out to your house.

Has anyone read the reviews on the generators on the website alb posted..

they sound like CRAP.

s u think i can be safe even if i had 3x 1000 hps light or is that to much
He said he uses more than 3kW.... How in the hell could the electric company know whether you're cooking a turkey dinner or growing pot? A microwave probably sucks up a good 1100w, your tv is atleast 500w, your computer? 900w+ with monitor...

No, I do have mains power (and mains natural gas), but we're waaaaaaay rural and power lines are above ground. One windstorm and we're off the grid for a few days. The gas and water keep going though, being below ground.

I linked to that page cos it was easy to find a pic of a 15kW genset, not because I have one of that brand nor because I bought it from the company on the website linked.

He said he uses more than 3kW....
Yes, but a grow op is composed of more than lights. I have 2660W committed to HPS lighting. The rest up to the 3500W draw with everything on is supporting devices.

They don't as a general rule. Old style mechanical power meters (spinning disc, big glass jar) have no means of recording load history. All the pwr co gets is a total kWh reading between meter reads.

However, some new electronic 'smart' meters actually do have a recording facility and can be polled (queried) remotely by a power utility. If they ask if you want one of these new meters and perhaps offer you a discount on some usage if you take one, just say 'no thank you.'
