If the rock wool cube is touching the water in the bucket you will probably kill the seedling due to it drowning. Water it by hand instead and you should be fine.

Why don't you add calmag to your water first and then do your normal routine? That's what I do. I add Calmag, and then I add all my other nutrients, test PH and adjust accordingly. I use RO water so I have to add calmag. Try this instead of adding calmag directly to your res.

I am not sure about 3 gal but I have seen plenty of 3.5 gallon buckets at local stores. There are great if you are trying to save on height since they are just like a 5 gallon only shorter.

Justforme11, When my plants would drink a lot of nutes/water the PH would drop real fast. That could be one possibility, another could be a problem with your roots. Have you checked them to see if there is any root slime or root rot?
