Is it possible to germinate directly in DWC bucket?

I want germinate directly in DWC bucket putting a humidity dome on top.
I was thinking of having the water level up to the bottom of the rockwool (or rapid rooter) plug.
Do you think this can work?

You probably wont need a humidity dome. I watched a video where the guy put an ungerminated seed into a small net cup with hydro-ton and it rooted and took off fine. I recommend germinating in a wet paper towel and putting the seed into root shooters or rock wool and then transferring it to your net pot and going from there.

Yes you can do it. I have two vanilla Kush babies that were germinated in a 5 gal DWC set up. I had a bit of an issue with the wicking of water through the hydroton though. I just manually watered it for a few days. I'm using 8" net pot lids and they hold allot of material. It may be easier to use your starting plug in a nursery tray for a week and then move it to your DWC. I currently have a couple germinating that way.

Good luck

If the rock wool cube is touching the water in the bucket you will probably kill the seedling due to it drowning. Water it by hand instead and you should be fine.

Thanks bigpoppablunt !

What do you mean by "wicking" water?
Were you manually feeding from the top?

I have 100 % germination success by dwc. No hand watering, no paper towels, cups of water or anything. Just placed the seeds 1-2 cm in a small rockwool cube that was ph'ed and shaken a couple of times and put into my DIY hydropropagator. Works like a charm every time. I have even done this in the rubber maid tubs with no problems.

I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for asking this question. If you keep them in a nursery tray and hand water them, should you use RO water, or RO water with week nutrients in it as well?
