I'd say that's more of an phosphorus deficiency. Few reasons you could have it, not having enough phosphorus, the obvious one. But I reckon the soil could be too wet here. If the soil is too wet, phosphorus is not gonna absorb well.

I definatly wouldn't chop a whole plant. You want to make use of the root space you have. So try keeping the top canopy as level as possible and trim the lower branches that doesn't get proper light. Also you can trim the smaller branches that try growing to the top, but where the area is...
