Yet another B3590 build; 180w UFO KILLER! ;)

Are there swamp coolers that small? Or a DIY solution? I have a humidi running outside the intake vent, but have a feeling i'm just pulling the cool moisture right out the exhaust, which is at max right now. Edit: I wonder if this DIY 'baby sampy' would be practical for my scale.. Also how...

Yet another B3590 build; 180w UFO KILLER! ;)

Light installed into tent. >> Album << Temps are a bit high @ 1.4a. ~102-104*F in the heatsink even with fans upped to 12v (only lowered temps by 3-5* going from 6v). ~80-88*F near canopy height.. Driver temp @ ~90*F+ is also higher than I anticipated, with an oscil fan blowing across it...

These? 2.1mm x 5.5mm CCTV. Also, likely not rated for high voltage? I got them for fans initially. 10x were cheap. I'll likely convert to something with a solder-on / pig tail design instead of the screw downs.

I'm trying to finalize my wiring and as I may have mentioned above, I plan to run the driver it remotely/outside tent, preferably on the cool floor. I'm using/have in my posession ~100' of 18g copper wire that I'd prefer to use, unless absolutely not recommended. Is it likely preferred to keep...

Yet another B3590 build; 180w UFO KILLER! ;)

Light rig complete. Doing a test run now. Heatsink temps are lower, but still ~100*F. Warm to touch, not hot. BUT, 2 of the LEDs are heat soaking my glass table ~8" away, glass temp was ~115*. So, still not sure if I have a cooling concern yet. Will see how it performs in the tent...

    pH issue resolution

Thanks for the replies all! I am awaiting arrival ph calibration solution, as well as EC solution. My ppm readings, using the cheapo TDS-3 meter. I'm not sure what scale it functions on. But, some of my recent ppm readings from run off are: 11-29 1320ppm (tap water, which is in the ~160ppm...

    pH issue resolution

I've had this Plink (Pinkberry x Blue Dream) going great from reg seeds, currently day 21 flower. Medium; FFHF + FFOF + perlite + dolo lime + mycos powder (see below). 1 gallon plastic pot (Yep, too small, but a bit of an experiment as well.) Fox Farm Trio nutrient line; Big Bloom, Grow Big...

Yet another B3590 build; 180w UFO KILLER! ;)

Oh, by vert I thought you meant stacks of racks with multiple bays 2-3+ high. This is where LED has an advantage, as long as plant counts are non-issue. :) 2x (or more) the number of plants in the same space, instead of 1000w with huge canopy distances. Still in search of yield/density...but...

I've been meaning to check your Vert grow out! Working on some of that at work as well. Thank you for this effort! I'll def be checking in on your project/grow. Update on the hot heatsink issue, updated above post: I think this has to do with the sinks being on their sides and the light heat...

Yet another B3590 build; 180w UFO KILLER! ;)

I was testing w/ lights on, and the sides right next to/behind the cobs, not in direct light. I tested them as soon as I powered off as well. And, hand test indicated warm-hot. I'll get an extra hygro to confirm temps tomorrow night. Thanks for the tips on laser thermo. 86-87*F in the tent...

Yet another B3590 build; 180w UFO KILLER! ;)

Just finished tapping 2nd pair of sinks. Attached COBs, wired fans and chips up. Just back from a test run. >> More pics << First issue seems to be the fans at 6v is not enough to cool this heatsink.. I'll find a 12v adapter and do further testing. Using a laser thermo I saw temps up to...

    CXB3590 Build :)

Maybe there was some talk about it above, but I'd highly suggest 99% ISO for a task like this. It works great for cleaning sinks and other PC electronic components. Avoid the watered down 70% that they have to sell to the masses in stores. I did some searching and found some 91% at a local...

    Matching Drivers and COBs

I feel like I could have used a larger tip and had a bit more thermal reserve, I was using my fine tip which is great with smaller gauge DC wiring. I definitely need to get some flux, having a hard time 'tinning' my tip, which likely caused some of my issue.

Yet another B3590 build; 180w UFO KILLER! ;)

Just another guy jumping on this high efficiency COB bandwagon. I've been dabbling with some cheap-CN 100w chips for a bit, and seeing great results. I've ran a cheap-CN 180w UFO LED (92w draw) and wasn't all that impressed, lots of heat, required a large distance to canopy, lack of...

    Matching Drivers and COBs

Thanks Supra! I actually got a lil zap @ 144 when I was testing voltage haphazardly. Reminded me I'm not working with 12-24v anymore. :) Nothing like what 120vAC feels like when using you as a conductor however.. I've seen this confusion (2 chips on a 185h-c1400?) in other threads, I'm glad...

    CXB3590 Build :)

Very interested in your results. Your in a ~3x3x3'? 9 sq ft, 9 chips, that should stomp. I'm also in a short 2x2x3' and building a B3590 setup @ 23-49w * 4 (700-1400mA). Should have some power if I need/want/am able to manage heat. :)

    Matching Drivers and COBs

OK, I follow your math..assuming the driver would allow a voltage of (34.9*2) 69.8v instead of its rated min. of 71v. I think this would work 100% fine with 3 chips because it would then be well within the spec of the driver and running in the 104.7v range. Maybe it would just run in some sort...

    Matching Drivers and COBs

Without potenti, correct. I don't really want to try and burn up $90 in chips..but, if I'm crunching numbers correctly, it shouldn't be too concerning. My calculations are from the drivers minimum voltage spec (71vdc). If 71v is its minimum voltage output, 2 chips will be getting 35.5vdc...

    Matching Drivers and COBs

Hello, can any driver & COB savvy person confirm for me that I'm safe to run 2x CXB3590s off of a MW HLG-185H-C1400B [71-143v] (w/o a resistor connected; so full power). It should be 71/2 = 35.5vF per chip, correct? At 1400mA, 49.7w per chip? I'm wondering if I can do a quick test-run with my...

    Kingbrite Rocks

I like the 5x 3590 @ 1.4A idea.. maybe a 5000k for the center to help manage stretch and provide some good lm? I also like the 4x @ 1.75A CXB3590/3070 option for ~250w (if I'm understanding/mathing it correctly). To maybe get a bit more coverage/PPFD from fewer chips in a 4x4, 8 chip configuration?
