I would say soil for the ease of use. Berger BM7 is something local for me I really like. It's peat, prelite and bark. Feed it with hydro nutes. I feed with ro water Armor SI ( mostly to buffer ) Foliage pro.

That strips it clean I guess, then you buffer with your intended nutes. That's how I read it anyway. If you don't strip it, he is saying that it will always hold onto some of your nutes. You would have to be doing all this with ro or distilled water.

I guess one thing you can do is look at everything you know you have. Plants need x amount of things to grow in kind of specific amounts. You can lock out nutrients by having too much of one thing. Check your soil bag, check the nutes and use a calculator to see what you are actually feeding...

Labs test it, that's how they know at dispensarys. You can tell by smoking it if it's real strong or real weak, I doubt I could tell a 5% range though. Other than that it is probably because they know that strain and know what it typically puts out if the grow goes well.

Honestly, better to underfeed than burning the F out of it like I did. Getting light colored=feed. Dark green=too much food. There is way more to it, but that is easy to remember and use.
