I went 0/3 for the purple pheno. However, despite it not turning purple it's one of the favorite strains around here. I'd be curious if you grow out more and get one that doesn't purple if you notice a difference in the end product.

No, they are correct. This is nute burn. Auto's only need around 600-800 ppm when in flower. It kind of sounds like @gokartsrb was correct with purple chem being hermie prone. They can be really easy to miss.
