Im not sure what the proper method is but i have dealt with this and depending on the extent. Get the light farther away obviously, and if there burnt bad i remove them (sometimes it sucks but my theory is it will waste way to much energy trying to fix it) If its minor burns just let it be.

While im not sure what you mean by deathly maybe there is some nutrient defficiency or something. It is normal in a plant cycle for fresh green leaves to grow and the lower bottom leaves to slowly die off. Have to know more to evaluate this better.
