Technical questions: 1) If my "cool tube" light is ventilated with cool air, can I let my plants grow closer to them? 2) Is having white buckets for a flood or aero system subject to too much exposure of roots to light?

Question: I want to veg under T5's and develope roots but, keep the plants short. What do I do to accomplish this the best without topping or cutting in any way ? Do I keep the light close or far away ?

for what it's worth....I'm not a pro by any means. However, one of the most direct links between quality and yield is THE SIZE OF THE ROOT MASS. I have built a Aero/DWC combo. It sprays the root system until the roots reach below the sprayers to the nutrient/oxygen rich solution. Can anybody be a devils advocate and give me a reason as to why this is bad or wont work? I see it as the best of both worlds. Prove me wrong, please.
