Keep in mind I run coco, so apart from during the plant's early life it stays pretty damp. We may have different experiences if you're running soil.

I haven't noticed this issue personally but when I water I use a pump and hose and water in concentric circles from the outside in.

I use fabric pots, yeah, not a fan of being overcharged for Smart Pots. I started using these a couple runs ago after moving from hard-walled plastic pots to plastic grow bags, haven't looked back since. They're especially excellent for running SOGs or just larger amounts of plants in plain coco...
