There's a way to rig rat traps or mouse traps to fire shotgun shells, then you hook a trip wire to them. I think it's in the "Anarchist's Cookbook". I would recommend taking the shot out of the shells and replacing it with rock salt or another less lethal alternative. get some 4 inch 12 gauge...
